I was goin down the road today and a 04 stang came up beside me with an exchaust and stuff, so i had to let him know what was up, and at about 85 mph...i guess the top of third gear, full throttle, the car just looses power almost like it hits a rev limiter. heres my thoughts....1) belt slipping 2) spark missfire 3) clutch slipping. This is an 02 mustang gt with paxton 1000 kit. on the stock clutch, but only 10,500 miles on the car. any input is great. thanks alot.

ps this is not the first time it has done it, and it will do it pretty consistently at WOT and high rpms.

What about your fuel system? Maybe a clogged fuel filter?

Wow.. hard to judge based on the info provided.. do you have a dyno run with a/f graph that you could post? I'm wondering if perhaps you're detonating, or running very lean or something. Bad gas maybe?

Did the RPM fluctuate? Or was it just a feelin of lost power? Did you hear any noises other than normal engine noise?

This is the reason why I don't race on street anymore. Or race in general. I'll usually brake something..

May be your loosing compression? Since its consistant issue? But I think its clutch myself. Is it the stock clutch? Pull the trans out and check it out

Hmmmm... Now I dont claim to be an expert n know it all, but I would think if it was clutch you would have had the problem earlier than WOT in third. Somewhere in first and second when you were hitting same RPM it should slip.

Dude... ur running Supercharger. I don't know your driving habit, but by the sound of it, you ride your car hard time to time. Your running stock clutch right? Stock clutch is not that strong. It can last for a while, or could become inadequate right after first WOT after positive manihold pressure device was added. I'm slightly in shock that after spending all this money in supercharging your car, you never thought to add stronger clutch....
Because you know, I would have if that was mine.

My suggestion is pull the trans, and check your clutch. Or just install new one. But I would stay away from SPEC

mity2...thanks for the advice. but im a college student, and just bought the car 2 months ago. a clutch is the first thing on my list once i sign my sponsorship contract. i was just wondering if this is a more serious thing i should look into.

I don't think it is your clutch and I certainly wouldn't go the trouble of pulling your tranny until your sure it is necessary. I don't think a worn clutch will make your car feel like it is hitting the rev limiter. If you have the means to do so, I would check the computer for codes and check the a/f ratio across the entire rpm band.
If I were fortunate enough to have a supercharger, I would take whatever steps necessary to ensure this thing is not running too lean. This condition will blow up the stock motor.
