So I have a 1966 Mustang that has a 302 that needs rebuilding. Anyone near Richmond, Virginia that just loves to rebuild engines and would be willing to teach me interested?

you are about 120 miles from me. i am in shenandoah national park for the summer. the only problem is i have only one night off per week, and it is usually monday night. if that is not a problem i dont mind helping. you can also email me with any questions you have. i have helped others over the net for a few years now.

some early advice;

1: as you disassemble the engine, bag parts and bolts in groups, all the oil pan bolts in one bag, all the head bolts in one bag, and mark each bag as to what is in the bag.

2: take pictures of the engine at each stage of disassembly. start with the complete engine on the engine stand, next pic comes when you remove your first part, etc. use a cheap digital camera that you can also use to load the pics on your computer, in the order in which they were taken.

3: TAKE YOUR TIME. there is no need to rush things, unless you have a hard deadline to meet, and if that is the case then buy a reman engine and bolt it inplace.

remember that a car is just a giant jigsaw puzzle, and if you take the time to note everything as you take it apart, it goes together fairly easily. the devil is in the details of tuning the thing to run right.

Thanks for the tips! 120 miles is sort of a stretch but I really appreciate the offer. I will definitely email you with any questions I have. But I would like to ask this now...How long does it usually take to overhaul an engine? Can I do everything myself like honing?
