Help!!! oil pan won't come off....

Hi out there...I need some help from one of you who has removed the oil pan off a 65 Mustang V8/289 engine.....This is the first time I tried doing this in order to replace the gasket....The oil pan won't come off because the cross member and the steering rod-drag link are in its way....I removed the X member but the rod-drag link is still in its way....so the next step would be to take the hole steering system out....I would like to know if there is an easier way of doing these....I thought it was going to be a piece of cake but it got complicated...please help....I will really appreciate it....Thank you...

pop the engine mounts and jack the engine up a bit

Just drop the idler arm... quickest way. should just be a 9/16 socket and wrench. Two bolts and everything is clear.

and get a rubber hammer to help break the seal on the pan.

i third that, the idler arm. i just did it on a buddies 67 to replace the oil pump
