Just wanted to make sure people saw this, I should have posted here first.

What to keep and what to replace? I see that one of the calpier pins is bent, and the dust cap is in crap shape. What do you guys see or know of that might need to be replace? The pads are said to have only 10,000 miles on the, but I think I will start with a fresh set anyway.
Thanks
Dan

i would not reuse bearings. Once they have been seated, they are not very reliable when taken apart and put back together. they shouldnt be too expensive. You also may have some issues hooking up a 2.3 Strut to the 5.0 assembly. It can be done, but it may take some shimming.

Dr.

P.S. I agree on the pads, and i would hit the rotors with some sandpaper.

I am starting to wonder if I should get rebuilt calipers. I am not sure on how many miles they have on them. I could use the ones I have for the core charge. What do you guys/girls think?

I'd go get SVO calipers, Hawk Pads, Maximum Motorsports caliper/bolt aluminum sleeves, and a good proportioning valve so you can yank the stock joke. Oh and get the SVO master cylinder, and SVO line adapter from MM.

THEN that car will stop!

That won't break the bank.

On the GT spindles/LX 2.3 struts, you'll have to put some shim washers on each side of the strut (where the bolts mount) as it's thinner than the GT strut.

Remember I am a poor college student with just a part time job. You going to loan me some money for all those nice parts :D

Well, here's my input.

I did my 5.0 brake swap ohhh...when was that. 4 or 5 years ago. I bought all the parts I used off a wrecked car. I had the rotors turned and bought some new cheapie organic pads from Napa. Also, I replaced one of the wheel bearings because it looked like some water had gotten into it and it was a little rusty. Other than that, those are the only things I replaced.

I've put well over 50K on the car since and I haven't replaced a single thing. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Unless the calipers are siezed, they probably don't need replaced. Also, a couple of my caliper bolts are bent, I don't think that' matters too much either.

Thats what i was thinking. This is a very nice upgrade that you will be very pleased with..

I think that I will go with this set up.

-73mm SVO Calipers
-SVO Master Cylinder
-MM SS brake lines
-MM SS Caliper Sleeves
-5.0 11" rotors
-Hawk pads
-SSBC Proportioning Valve

Would I need the SVO line adapter ? And if so should I just get MM SVO kit that they sale (MMSVOP-2 $249.95 ) ?

That looks okay, but I'd go with the '94+ V6/GT master cylinder over the SVO. I believe the threads are different between the two, and the 3-2 port conversion will be easier than with the SVO unit. Check out Matt90GT's brake site to get the conversion kit, it's like $25 and has everything you need. I'll eventually go with:

73mm calipers
Hawk pads
'94+ MC
3-2 conversion
TC rear disks (yeah, we're talking long-term here, as in post-turboswap)
Summit proportioning valve (actually a Wilwood unit, but cheaper at Summit I think)
probably stainless caliper sleeves and lines

As of now, though, I'm just going with stock 5.0 stuff and Hawk pads. Kinda on the cheap at the moment, due to building the suspension as well.

Is it just me are does one of those caliper bolts look bent

I would just use what you got. I would have the rotors turned for sure and replace the bearings since they're out anyways. If you don't feel right about the calipers just use them as cores for rebuilts at AZ. I think with cores the rebuilds are like 15.00- 25.00 bux each. You can use the stock struts but you will needs shims.

I really need to do this swap one day since I got most of the stuff anyways.

Rebuilt calipers are cheap.
I think i paid $15 each for my old 73mm calipers which were on my '88 but now on my '85

Im sorry to be bringing back an old thread. But are you saying that you can do your brake upgrade without changing the spindles over to 5.0 spindles? Thanks for any help.
