I'm looking to be purchasing a 5 liter Mustang real soon, probably a 1990-1993. I've done some research but i wanna know what everyone thinks. First question is if the car is a GT, can you put extended tailpipes on it like the LX has instead of turn-downs?
2. If you buy a catback exhaust system, do you also need to buy H-Pipe and Headers, or if you just buy mufflers, headers, and H-Pipe is it cheaper?
3. What kind of shifter do you recommend: Steeda Tri-Ax, B&M, Pro 5.0 or something else?
4. What type of Headers: BBK/MAC/something else and also shorty/longtube and equal/unequal?
5. Is the Ford E303 Cam a good choice or should i go with crane or edelbrock comp cam?
6. What kind of gears 3.55 or 3.73?

I like the deep throaty sound like the 60's muscle cars. I know flowmaster is good for this, so i'm thinking the setup that i want would be flowmaster delta flow 40 series, Mac ProChamber H-Pipe and Mac Unequal Shorties. Again, this is just from the research i did, i'd like to have your input! Thanks a lot!

1. Yes but you'll probably have to modify your rear valance or replace it.

2. You can buy a cat back without having to replave everything at once.

3. Personally, I like the Tri-Ax - Better than I likes the Pro 5.0. haven't ever had the B&M

4. BBK unequal / Jet coated / inch and five eigths

5. Leave your cam alone until you're ready for heads and intake.

6. Gears will depend on what your final goal is and where you want to be in RPM when you're making power. If it's a daily driver grocery getter my opinion would be the 3.55s

For the deep throaty sound -- checkout the Bassani Quiet Thunder Cat back system.

Thanks for getting back so quickly. Do you know how much money or how much is involved into modifying the rear valance? I wouldn't be doing the work, i would take it to a mechanic. I don't know if it's worth it or to just wait for an LX. I just like the extended exhaust tips. Thanks again for your help.

Modifying is easy; just a matter of cutting the valance. Cutting holes just for the pipes to stick through is pretty ghetto looking. Make some nice horse shoe shaped cuts and blend it well. It'll look great.

you can either get a cobra bumper or deal with your pipes scraping on everything. if you live somewhere that doesnt have many hills or inclines you will be fine. my friend in high school had a 93 gt that was lowered that had 2 1/2 chrome tips out back and they would just scrap a little if he wasnt careful

Just a quick question-- Do the Cobra bumbers look OK on an otherwise stock GT or should you change over the ground effects to Cobra style too?

Here's a 93 Cobra <it may be a GT with Cobra effects> but anyhow, a Cobra rear bumper will blend with the GT gfx.

pro 5.0 shifter
bbk 1 5/8 headers
flowmaster's or other muffler, and offroad h-pipe for the sound you want

i have a cobra bumper, improves the look of a hatchback/vert ALOT. gets rid of the box formation they have in the back. i liked my cobra bumper even more after getting the wing also. stock wing just didnt do it for me anymore

What does everyone think about MAC high flow prochamber? I heard it can improve up to 23 HP. Is this a good reliable H-pipe or do you recommend something else?

It's a good midpipe, but don't expect to see anywhere near 23hp. When a lot of companies do these tests, they build a 600hp engine, then run it through a stock exhaust. Then they swap out the exhaust and voila....of course it's gonna free up a ton of horsepower. But your average 5.0L won't see more than 5-10hp on any off road H/X-pipe!

It's just like 20hp with a K&N filter. You might see it in a 600-700hp engine that needs a lot of air to perform, but your average car couldn't utilize that amount of flow to begin with.

Don't even waste your time with 3.55's. Get 3.73's, Pro-5.0 shifter, Flowmasters, and an off-road h or x-pipe.

I'm in the market for new headers, I'm looking at the Hooker shorty headers.

As for the pipes sticking out of the GT bumper. Yeah I hate it too. Just run turndowns right after the muffler. No tail-pipes.
