Help On Purchase!

Looking for a few suggestions. To performance pack or not to?!? Performance pack doesn't let me get the automatic. Yes... I know. Sports cars are supposed to be standard... But this is going to be a commuter car, and I was very pleased with the auto. Should I not worry too much about getting the performance pack?? Does it make that much of a difference? Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I ordered an Auto car but upgraded to the 3:55 rear gears and don't have any regrets. The 4 piston stock GT brakes are still amazing and you won't miss any of the other features as far as i'm concerned. The paddle shifters and sport driving modes easily replace the need to have a clutch and a tired leg sitting in traffic

I went stick since I work 7 miles from home. If I had an hour long commute again, I would have gone auto. Also, if you have long commutes, you should think about NOT getting the performance pack and enjoy some comfort (less bouncy) and better mpg. I would have been happy with an automatic, too. For people that say you should have gotten a stick, just remind them that nowadays, automatics are faster.

I recommend the Premium over the standard so you have leather seats. When will you ever say you wish you got cloth seats?

Sounds like me and 84 got the same ride, gears and all. Very happy with it as well

I went performance pack. I like the bigger wheels, 6 piston Brembo breaks and the suspension upgrades.

I have a GT Premium with 3:31 gears & transmission manual. I have to say the brakes are more solid then any car I have ever driven. I was planning on the performance pack but ended up getting what was on the lot because it had the right color & most of my must have options. I have to say I have no regrets. This car still performs phenomenally without the upgrades!

Eww. Automatic...

I made the mistake of having an automatic in my first mustang, and it's something i'll never do again. As for performance pack, depends on what you want to do with the car. If you're going to track/drag it, it might be a good investment now. If you're getting an automatic for a daily driver, then you can probably do without it.

I would have to agree. That's why I got the performance packed GT this time around. My very first Mustang was an automatic. My second Mustang was a 5-speed 1997 V6, which I purchased brand new. However I was too young to get a GT in either of the two models because insurance was going to be more than the monthly payment. This time around I got the GT with Performance pack and I don't regret it. 3.73 is a great gearing option and the other options that come with a Performance Pack make it a great value for the money.

If you plan to road course race it get the PP. Otherwise, there's not a lot of benefit to be noticed as a daily driver or even a drag racer. Most of the PP stuff applies to road racing scenarios.

On mine I have the manual and 3.55 gears and can't keep the tires under it when launching. 3.73's would just make that worse. First gear is also pretty useless with 3.73's. Even with 3.55's I can go from a stop in 2nd without really thinking about it.

Bigger wheels and tires.....you cn do better for cheaper in the aftermarket.

6-piston brakes....that's pure road racing.

The extra bracing....also road racing.

The larger radiator....also road racing.

See where I'm going with this? If this is a daily driver, save the money for the PP and apply it toward the Premium over the Base.

All you guys hating on the automatic...

If the last automatic Mustang you drove came from 2004 then I would tell you that the new automatic cars are a must drive. The paddle shifters work great and are super responsive. These automatic transmissions have proven to take a beating and have been untouched while making 9 second passes at the drag stip. Lets see your right arm and left leg to that Even on the road course I was super impressed with the automatic. Sure I would have liked the PP options but I would rather have an automatic GT than a PP stick car any day

Today's automatics are smarter than the average driver and will always be in the right gear. The pros that track test these newer cars can attest that there are only one or two times a lap that they would have liked to be in a different gear. That's just the human element of knowing what's coming next. The cars are completely reactionary. These are not C4s or AODs anymore...and thankfully, they're not T-5s anymore either!

Hahah sorry sir. Doesn't matter how fast it goes, doesn't matter how much horsepower it has, automatic mustangs, camaros, vettes, etc will always take flak. Sure its a personal preference but if two of the same cars run 11.5, one's an auto and the other is manual, the manual time is always more impressive. I mean unless you're legitimately racing as a profession and/or NEED to post the fastest times possible, being an automatic mustang owner will always be frowned upon (especially on car forums), in my opinion anyway.

But in the end, to each their own, for sure. It doesn't matter what other people think, it matters what YOU the owner think or prefer.

car for car, hp for hp, all other things being equal, you WILL NOT run as fast in a manual as you will with today's auto's....PERIOD!

It's tough to run with today's automatics even if you're running a Lenco. You also can't run as consistent with a manual as you can with an auto.

If I want to go fast, it's with an auto. If I want to DRIVE the car, I get a manual.

It's all personal preference and I have autos and manuals, but if you wanna really get your neck snapped back at the track you run a built and tuned auto.

If you can drive it... It's been my experience that most cars that we have put automatic's in have picked up a considerable amount of ET at the track. While I agree that your statement would hold true in a perfect world, people in general are far from perfect and I only know a select few that have such a high proficiency shifting a car that makes a considerable amount of HP

Exactly. That's what I said. There are very few people, even experienced racers that can match their manual against a good automatic.

If I want a purely drag race vehicle, it'll be an automatic. None of my big HP stuff is manual. I got a manual in the Mustang because it's my driver and I just like grabbing gears.
