Hey guys, I've set my TPS many times over the yrs so I'm fairly confident in the method...HOWEVER I have an issue!!!
I had just reinstalled my battery and was just putzing with a few issues..anyhow I checked my TPS and the reading was 0.15v !!!! checked the orange wire...4.85v, checked the tps.... again .15 volt. Checked the tps while opening the TB and it reached max of 1.3 volts?????????????? at WOT. Car was running last week..only had the battery out during a zex intall and put it back in...car has NOT been started since battery install. Do I need to start the car to 'reset' the TPS? No matter how I attempt to adjust the TPS I'm getting nothing higher than 0.16v and nothing I do will get me anywhere near 1.0 or hell even .2...thoughts?? Can't start the car tonight simply because Jr is asleep..but will need to get a tps tomorrow if need be inorder to drive this weekend!!!!

Derek, as long as you have your VREF at 5.0 volts (give or take 10%) and your ground is solid, it should work fine (there's nothing to reset or anything like that).

Double check your TPS ground wire and ensure it's ok.

Good luck Derek.

Ok some info on the situation...tried new TPS...same story...

I have an issue I hope you can assist me with...
I was checking my TPS yesterday and readings were..

orange wire and black wire probed... 4.85v
orange wire and battery ground probed... 5.15
orange wire body ground probed.... 5.13

Green wire and black wire probed... 0.12v

at this point I attempted to adjust the TPS but could not attain anything higer than 0.12v. Then I checked green wire to body ground and battery ground post...results were simular. From there I replaced the TPS with a known good sensor...same results.

Testing done warm KOEO and with battery disconnected and then reconnected to check for change..no change.

This reading is from yesterday...car runs and idles correctly but TPS reading as seen is quite off????

Volt meter is set on the 12v 'bat' feature and since other readings for orange wire and battery voltage came back correct..I ASSUME the volt meter is functioning.

Any thoughts? I've set several TPS sensors in the past but never failed to attain required voltage.
Thanks,
Derek.

I had this happened to me one time and it turned out to be a bad ground wire in the injector harness. I would check the salt and pepper shaker connectors and the orange ground wire from the injector harness.

Thanks bro..
Sleeper....I like that Idea but since the tps voltage does sweep as throttle is opened I wonder. Only problem is the sweep is .12 to 1.3v at WOT rather than typical .9v to 4.xx as the TPS should. Also when testing orange/black I am getting good 4.85 reading so I assume ground (black is fine).

Conartist and I are suspecting my DMM

i doubt its the multimeter because the other numbers you have reported make sense....

There may be a short between the green wire and signal ground or chassis ground.
Remove the passenger side kick panel and disconnect the computer. Then disconnect the TPS sensor from the wiring harness. Measure the resistance between the engine harness green wire and the engine block. You should see an infinite resistance or a reading higher that 1 megohm.

Repeat the test and measure the resistance between the green wire and the black wire on the engine harness. You should see an infinite resistance or a reading higher that 1 megohm.

Be sure that you do not touch the metal probe tips when making resistance measurements. If you do, the readings will be inaccurate.

Thanks guys...result from checking a few things last night..defective DMM, new meter set to 20DCV gave me a reading of .95!!!! wasted effort but lesson learned.
