I'm about to put my new hanlon built T5 in my car and i've run into a problem. I can't get the big bushing type thing that the pilot bearing sit inside out of the crank? I have the slide hammer/pilot bearing removal tool and it took the pilot bearing right out like it was nothing. But I'm having no luck getting the other piece out. Any suggestions? once i get it out i can put the new one in and put the trans back in the car.

Fill it up with a grease gun (or thick bearing grease), and then fill a socket up that barely fits in the hole. Add an extension and give it some taps with a hammer.

I ended up having to buy a pilot bearing puller. Its practically a 2 jaw puller that just pulls it right out, works like a charm but cost me 90 dollars

The pilot bearing in my Mustang did the same thing yours did. The slider hammer puller I borrowed from AutoZone had a extra set of bigger jaws that fit the pilot bearing shell. It took a lot of jerking using it, but it did come out.

Same problem.. Grease didn't work, I used a die grinder with a carbide burr and very carefully ground one side of the bearing to relieve the pressure. Just make sure you clean up all the shavings cause you don't want them floating around next to the seals.

the grease will always work, it's simple compression. If it's not working right, you're doing it wrong.

stick your finger in the pilot bearing and feel the backside of the casing facing the crank it has two indents on each side for the tabs on the jaws of the puller

Can you take a picture? I'm just curious as to why the "grease method" doesn't work.
