HELP PLEASE!! dash wont light up. can't see gauges at night

I have a 1994 GT .ok so my dash lights wont come on when i turn my headlights on. so i checked the switch and harness. the harness was burnt(common problem i hear). so i pulled one off another mustang, twisted the correct wires together after splicing, pluged the harness back into the headlight switch and turned on the headlights. headlights, corner llights, and fog lights all work.. but the dash still wont light up. i've still yet to check the bulbs in the dash.. could that be it or what. i've check fuse #13 which is the ilumination fuse for the dash. idk what else could be wrong. i want to be able to se my gauges at night!!.. im startin to go a little crazy lol.... can someone please tell me whats wrong. any ideas, thoughts, or knowledge helps. thank you.

if you wiggle the headlight knob around,do the dash lights come on?
if so,you prolly need a new headlight switch.

I would just get a new headlight switch and try that first. They aren't that expensive, and it's something that goes out pretty frequently.

check the wiring to the headlight switch probably melted and nasty in the back of the switch

im goin to get a voltmeter and check the wires. and probably a new switch if all else fails.. thanks

Like Adam and Kurt said, just check the switch first. It's real easy and it is most likely melted. They do that.

the harness that plugs into the switch was melted so i changed it. i am going to test the wires and fuses for power then if all else fails get a new dimmer switch
