hey guys, so I got my cams and heads and now need to install them, I was having someone do the install, i beleive i can do it just dont want to mess anything up and I never dont this before. I have a 2001 mustang gt bullit, do you have to drop the engine? he called me and said he read that you have to.

you need another mechanic if he cant tell by taking 20 seconds to look at the car.
I wouldnt let some joe smoe work on your limited production vehicle.

you can do the swap eitherway. Some prefer the motor out, others dont.

Patriot cams, supposily stage 2, so you do not have to take the engine out? this is a big deal beause I need my car to drive to work next week and now hes not coming because he read in a tech article I am guessing from his garage that the first step is taking the engine out

If you and your mechanic are this clueless about how to do it, it might be better just to bring it to a reputable shop...especially if you need to count on it as a daily driver

I just recently did my first Headswap on my Mustang. I pulled the motor to do it. It took me 4 days to get it all done, and I have all the tools I could possibly need to do all the work, plus a friend helping part of the time.

I'm not telling you not to attempt it, but it's not a weekend job unless you really know what you're doing.

Any trained monkey can do a head swap. You can do it with the engine in the car but it wouldn't be much fun. If you are going to use head studs you have to pull the engine. Pulling the engine only takes about 30 min if you have the right euipment.

I don't mean to sound like a dick but I really think you should take your car to a mechanic for this head swap. There are many things that can go wrong and you can REALLY screw up your car if you don't know what you're doing. I would not recommend a head/cam swap if you are new to car mechanics....
