(1990 Mustang LX 5.0) Well today i was driving, and i was in second gear, and for the hell of it, i stomped it, and my car usually accelerates up to speed, but this time when i did it, my tach. went from 2,000 to 5,000 and i barely went any faster. So I was wanting to know what could be the problem on my car (clutch, flywheel disc, ect.?). Also I noticed that any gear i'm in, and i get on the gas a little bit more then normal the tach shoots up and the car again barely accelerates... whats wrong?? :(

thanks in advance

Sounds like you need a new clutch! Mine did that, felt like it was an automatic down shifter then caught a gear. More than likely your clutch is gone... time to order that NEW RAM clutch.

*Update*

Thanks guys for the help. Well today I took it to four different stores and told them my situation about my stang, and all of them said the clutch is going. So I went home and my dad has this one friend that can hook me up with a brand new clutch for a good price and install it... the only thing that sucks is, is that I have to go without my car until about Wednesday, so I can't drive er for the rest of the holiday weekend :( Oh well, atleast I have something to look forward though. Well thats all for now. Take it easy!

Make sure you either resurface your flywheel, or get another one too. If your flywheel is glazed, it will also exhibit that symptom. Cheap insurance!

Yea, thanks for the advice. Pep Boys told me to take a look at that too when I have the clutch replaced, so when I take my car in, i'll have them look at that and see if it needs to be resurfaced or replaced.

get a clutch kit, where it comes with your pilot bear, thrustbearing. Get a new clutch cable and firewall adjuster and adjustable quadrant, it feels a whole bunch better after doing all of this. and make sure your clutch fork is still good.

Just did mine this weekend,

I got a ford Racing King cobra Clutch,

WOW what a difference!
It feels like my clutch pedal had hydralics in it!

Theres like no effort to depress the clutch, Love it :)

and YES your flywheel ALWAYS needs resurfacing or replacing,
Also while its out do a Transmission Flush,

3 Qts of the finest ATF you can find,
I use Mobil-1 Fully Synthetic ATF,
Really made a difference,
And always replace your pilot bearing and throwout bearing, But you get them in the Ford Kit anyway if you go ahead and choose that one,
