Anything you will have to modify? Get prepared to cut the top off of the tranny tunnel and do some serious reconstruction to get a T-56 in a 66 correctly.

Maybe we can help each other...

I have the combo your discussing half into my 66. I know it will work and can tell you what has to be cut upon and what else I have run into. I am going to be at home latter today working on it and can take you some pics.

T-56 is overkill. Look into the Tremec or T-5

It's the TKO but the body's are about the same size. I was shooting this for the mod portion that will need to be done.

thanks for the link, is there a way to lower the engine mounts instead of raising the tranny mounts to get the angle right or is that not an option?

Yes/No. There are mounts that sit a little lower, but the angle will still not be quite there yet. The pan already sits pretty low. This is not the recommended way to go.

some good articles here

http://moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/classic_swaps.htm

that link mdjay put up there basically illustrates what is said above. The new kids on the block are the TKO500 and 600, you can check them out on the Modern Driveline site if you want some big torque (500 and 600 respectively). Good luck, I'm going to do the automatic to TKO swap on my '70 when the IRS fairy gives me a little back next year!
