Help quick 5 lug conversion

so i converted to 5 lug with all parts including axles from a 95 v6. then i was having rear end rubbing issues so i decided to go back to stock (79-93) length axles. i went with the 79-93 5 lug moser axles with the 94-04 flange. Now the rotors are hitting the caliper brackets. i kinda remember hearing that i would need NOrth star brackets. can somone verify that for me and also, can i just shave down the 95 brackets cuz it looks like that might work too?

Never heard of anyone shaving down the brackets.
I would think it would just be easier and wiser to get the northracecar brackets.

Cut the brackets from the rear end and move them. Swhat id do.

i went ahead and bought the northracecar brackets. there went some more cash, will it ever end? lol

This was one of the most time consuming and expensive mods that I did for my car. Even with the North Race Car brackets, I still had to use washers to push the calipers out from my car to keep them from rubbing on the disk.

Yes, you definatly need the new brackets to use stock length axles. I didn't need any washers as spacers with my sn95 rear disk setup. This difference in the location is 3/4 of an inch so shaving is not an option.

Also cutting off the existing mounts and relocating them is a terrible idea, if you don't get them placed exactly right you'll be replacing brake pads every few days or they'll bind up if they're crooked, etc.

yeah i think i'll have to use washers cuz it looked like the rotor was going to scrape the backing plate bolts, will see when the plates get here. i still can't believe these plates are 160 bucks plus tax and ship. its just a freeking plate with holes in it.

i really wish i would have just thrown some ranger axles and drums on and been done with it months ago.

And yes, I know some of you will say the rotors are on backwards, but I'm not hard on my brakes so I mainly got them for the looks and I think they look better this way.

Solid rotors are non-directional. You can put them on any way you want. I would have put them on that way as well.

Yeah, that's also what I thought, but I have had a lot of people tell me they're on backwards and that the slots should vent the gasses inward not outward.

There are no gases to vent...unless you are running exotic race type pads.

The slots are to wipe brake dust off the face of the rotor/pad as the rotor moves through the caliper. What direction they face does not really matter.

Crossdrilled holes are for venting gases, but like i said before, unless you are running exotic type race pads, there are no gases to vent. Either way, there's nowhere for them to go if there were gases. The gases normally would vent into the center vane area of a vented rotor where the main airflow of cooling takes place. since solid rotors don't have the internal vanes, there is nowhere for the gases (if any) to even go.

Basically they are for looks..so run em whatever way you want.

so what a waste of money. 160+ and the damn things still don't line the caliper bracket up correctly. I had to use two washers to center the bracket. Here is the pic and you can clearly see the bracket was touchin the rotor before i added the washers

I told you that you were going to have to do that. I am not sure why they designed them that way. Also, the rear calipers are the same on Gt's and Cobra's. The only minor difference is a small cross member going along the front of the caliper.

yeah, i'm kinda pissed that there that much and they still can't correctly design them. i guarentee those things don't cost but 20 bucks to make and bend, then drill the holes. i wish a no name company would take this on and sell them for 60 bucks, that'll put North Race car in the place

I had to washer them too.
Didn't think much of it. No other choices out there.
Also there are many companies that do not wish to be involved in brake components. It would seem there is alot of liability involved should something go wrong.

So while i too didn't love 160 bucks, there isn't any other choice.
Besides, if they didn't fit in the other direction, you would have to have them milled to fit, so washers aren't the end of the world.

I beleive the washers are needed by design. If you use Grade 8 hardware or better, it shouldn't affect anything.

I beleive the reason was production variances for the gap with factory caliper brackets. I don't want to speak for NRC though, but i think that was the explaination i read on corral.net??

i didn't use grade 8, just some washers laying around the house. i put a little loctite on the bolts so it'll have to do for awhile.

Well the washers are in compression...so as long as they aren't plastic you are fine. I meant the bolts really

It is a bit late now but anyone reading this that needs to buy brakets I used an alternative to the NRC brackets. Go on eBay an look for a seller neighbors_industries he makes his own brackets and even includes the hubcentric rings needed to center the disk on the hubs for far less than what NRC charges. I used an SBC big brake rear disk kit that was made for replacement of the sn95 v6/gt rear brakes and the brackets aligned everything perfectly. No washers needed. He is great to deal with as well. From what he said he does this on the side and does not always have these listed but find him on eBay and email him he will get you taken care of. I found him through suggestions on other forums.
