hey everyone, im having a new problem. it seems to be a hot start problem. i will use today as an example. i was cruising down the interstate, about 75 or 80 for about 18 miles, everything was fine. i got off and pulled straight into the gas station, filled up, and hoped back in (5min max) and the car barely started, like the starter was locking up, but still cranked, it was surging bad at idle, and running very very rich(i think, like a carbed car that is flooding out) got right back on the interstate, and it skipped bad for about a mile and then cleared up. what does this sound like?? i was thinking timing, but would like to know what all of yall think. now i have a backfire in the exhaust. another question is what size gas tank do i have?? oh, its a 87 gt, basically stock speed density, besides no smog or cats.PLEASE, ANY SUGGESTIONS??? IM RACKING MY BRAIN......

check the codes, check your IAC and TPS voltage. What about 02 sensors? TFI Module (they are prone to heat). I think you can test the TFI if you start the car up and tap the TFI module, if it starts acting up... then hey theres your problem. What about EGR? Check the Vaccuum.... I don't know alot, but I know it sucks when you really need a response quick and there is 50 people in here who don't seem to know anything. :)

Well, it probably smelled 'rich' becuase when you were cranking the motor, it was dumping fuel that pooled. Once it fires up and burns off all that fuel it will smell terrible.

How is your car's tune? I haven't really had a hot start problem before but it might have something to do with your speed density computer..

If checking vac, your SD motor should have near 20" hg at warm idle. CHeck your MAP sensor and the line to it (if there is a crack in the line, that can create some issues. It would end up making the puter think you are into the gas when you are not [rich]).

I would yank codes too (since your car has no CEL, you dont know if it tossed one).
Good luck.
