so i had someone look under my car because something is squeaking terribly, and they told me that i needed new sway bar bushings. not the end link ones, but the 2 big ones that mount to the car. so i got 2 from ford. i know i can do this myself, but im asking how. should i leave it on the ground? jack it up and put on stands and then jack up a arms? then just unbolt everything but the end link, drop it replace them and bolt it back up?

i really wanna fix this squeaking and i dont know what it is. not tie rod or ball joint. does it when suspension flexes, or i turn the wheel standing still or moving. what can it be?

The top nuts for the bar's bushings are captured in a POS plastic crate. If you're lucky like me, the nuts will spin when you try to remove the fasteners. I had to mangle the plastic enough to get a wrench on top and keep the nuts from spinning.

Some bushings come with a split in them so you dont need to remove the bar. Mine did not - I had to unbolt the bar, clean it so new bushings would slide, and reinstall the bar.

All in all, it's fairly simple. I'd get new end links while you're at it (Energy Suspension units are under 20 bucks).

Good luck.

so i got the sway bar off, and im going to be putting my new bushings on it soon. but like you said hissin the plastic catch broke all up. i do have the bolts still. when i put it back on do i need to get another plastic catch or should i just use the 4 bolts that came out of the plastic catch?

thanks again.

I just reinstalled the fasteners as they were originally. Since my nuts were spinning in the plastic crap, I just broke the plastic around the nut head (so I could get a socket on the nut). I left the plastic itself in place, so nothing really changed. Otherwise, it's just a common sense kinda thing.

Good luck.

I'm not sure about your situation since I didn't have to do that. You could add a lock washer for good measure, I suppose. I doubt there should be any issue no matter how you do it though.
