I am starting this thread as a mustang and race enthusiest. I am a student at WWU and a team member on our formula race team. FSAE is a student competition to build a formula style race car. At WWU we have the VRI or vehicle research institute. Our classes are foucused in vehicle design and manafacturing. The formula club is an extra project aside from class work. Our current car is a carbon fiber tube frame chassi, with a CBR 600 engine. The car weighs 438lbs and is making around 70 hp( due to 20mm air restrictor). Basically this thread is to raise awarness of our prgram and to see if any of you would like to support us. perhaps some local mustang clubs would like to be a sponser and get their name on the car. Anyway, let me know if anyone is interested or have any questions about the car. Thank you

A little more info on the VRI...

Here is the VRI home page...
http://vri.etec.wwu.edu/

The WWU FSAE home page can be tough to find, so here is a link...

Here is a video clip from Good Morning America on Viking 32

(I was lucky enough to get to help in the layup of the all Carbon Fiber Body of Viking 32 )

This is a great school, and the VRI is a great program.
Most of the materials used to build the FSAE cars are donated, or purchased with student supplied funds.
All of the design and fabrication is done in house, at WWU.
CNC machining, composite design and manufacture, etc.

The current FSAE car is Viking 38, correct?
Do you have any pics?

Hope this helps get some attention...

Yes V38 is the current car. V43 is in development, but V38 will be going to Detroit to compete this May. The website is extremely outdated, and it is rather embarassing, but V30 is on there. It has a student built 554cc V-8 (yeah, V-8) that revs to almost 20,000rpm. Shoot me any questions about any of the cars though. Im working on getting some pics up. Thanks for looking

Don't help WW, help UW

http://students.washington.edu/auto/

UW has far less industry support and avaible tooling than Western (and I am a little bias becasue I am an alum of UW)

Actualy even better help both, Forumla SAE is hands down the best program for creating quality engineers.

Most of the movers and shakers in the automotive industry are FSAE alums (including the engineers that design new mustangs)

For all of the Oregon residents feeling left out here is the '06 Oregon State car.
And a link to the website.
Oregon State SAE

As a FormulaSAE alum I can't say enough about the experience that is gained from the program. And SAE grads are definitely the best their are. No other group of programs prepares an engineer better than FormulaSAE and BajaSAE.
