I am trying to time my car but can only see like 4 or 5 lines on the balancer which look like 2 degree increments and what looks like 16 at the end of them. My late model has +,- 30 degrees. Anyhow I drew a line in the middle just to see where it was at and it's way off but i'm not sure what the hell I'm at on the balancer. What should be on the stock balancer for marks? It's clean and there isn't a ton of paint on it but I can't see any more lines. Yes, the vac advance is pulled.

thanks

I believe it only goes to ~ 16 degrees on the balancer. The 30 + degrees is your total timing which takes into account what value has been selected in your distributor (you add your initial timing to this value and that gives you your total timing).

I recently had to pull my balancer and lightly sand the rust off of it and give it a good shot of clear coat. I couldn't read it at all.

The BTDC side goes up to 30 degrees, the ATDC side only goes 10. Take a drill with a wire wheel and remove all the paint from the marks, then either paint over them with white or use a chalk, then wipe the excess off.
