PROFORM!! I built one with a 650 holley core $125. Plus $100 for mainbody plus $45 for AN fuel log. Plus a freshen up kit. $275 for a 750 holley dominatoror hp series is basically what it is. You can get vacuum sec or double pumper. summit has them on sale right now.

i would use a 750 carb, perhaps even and 850 carb. that engine needs airflow due to the poor rod/stroke ratio.

What is the problem with the rod stroke ratio.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the rod ratio in a 408 I would choose a 750cfm demon or holley I personally prefer the demon money wise you cant beat its out of the box performance.

69 mach 393 your engine is close to mine, sportsman block A351, steel crank rods alum pistons from probe, 7qt milodon oil pan, roush 200 heads flowed to 250@.500 lift,180 on the .ex, 9.8.1 comp ratio, custom comp hy roller 288-293-236-242-555-576-108, vic jr manifold, 750HP DP carb worked from BIGS, 1\3\4 supercomps, edelbrock water pump, msd billet dist, my engine builder said 750 would be ok for my engine i was thinking 950HP but i'll see how it fares on the chasis dyno this spring, 69mach1 408w, i need torque then high end HP hope my engine will put some good numbers down if not back to the drawing board. good luck with yours.

My 393 in my 67 runs a 950 double pumper. If I put anything smaller on it the car slows down about 3 tenths.

Dood:

Get a 750 Pro Vac from www.quickfueltechnology.com

Or if you want all out racer.....get them to custom build a double pumper.

They will build it to your motor specs.

All I can say is my 750 Pro Vac is the Best Carb I have ever seen!!!!! It performs like EFI..........let me tell you it kicks azz.....and it was reasonable.

The customer service is top notch........talk to Marty Brown.....the guy knows how to make power!!!!!

Trust me......the ProVac 750 from Quick Fuel is WAY, WAY more carb....for about the same cash. It is completely modified and tested by the guys who build $1000.00+ race carbs for all types of racing!

Do yourself a favor.......BUY ONE.......you will not be dissapointed! I would call them and talk to Marty.....give him your engine specs and he will build the carb to your set-up.......it will blow your socks off!

PS: I have absolutely nothing to do with the company......I am simply one very happy owner.

What is your projected use? If its a street car and you want to drive it to shows and what not.....go with the 750 vacuum secondaries.

Here is an example though.....

My stroker (which is a very different motor than yours) is a 408 cleveland.

I just made 330 or so RWHP with a 770 vacuum secondary carb.
The motor made 393 RWHP with a double pumper that was flowing 850.

My car with the AOD is getting 15 miles to the gallon (AOD, 9 inch rear, 4.11 gears) with the 770 carb. That to me is very impressive given the power it makes. Once I switch to the 850 full time I expect that number to go down drastically because of the nature of double pumpers.

I would expect your motor to run good with a 750 VS and run better with an 850 VS and even better still with an 850 DP.

In my experience......yes. The guy knows his stuff and gives you great support.

I hope you aren't being sarcastic, because those guys deserve more than that BS.

I think that if it is a street car that sees the occasional strip, you are way better off with a vacuum sec carb.......the throttle response is better for street seeing as the secondaries respond to engine airflow needs.

The ProVac 750 that I have flows well over 800cfm wet! Yet it retains wicked throttle response due to the set-up and vac secondaries.

I sold my Holley 750 DP to buy the ProVac.......BEST move ever!
