I have just bought a SVO Motorsports intake to fit my 94 GT,the lower has the EGR passage hole in the centre, but the upper has not.

Do genuine 94-95 Cobra manifolds have the EGR passage in the upper manifold?

the pics ive found online aint got it either. What would happen if i use this upper, and not delete all the EGR stuff?

thanks in advance

I assume that you have the 94-95 Conbra intake not the Fox style?

I can't answer your question about the EGR passage but I can say that I did delete my EGR, first by tricking the computer (compressing the plunger) and that worked OK but not great. Then I turned it off in the computer (twEECer). That worked great.

Good Luck.

If you have a 94/95 Cobra upper, then no, it will not have the EGR passage. This is because 94/95 GT's and Cobras get their EGR source from the passenger side header.

The reason you see the EGR passage in the lower is because Ford used that lower for a few different applications/cars, some of which required an internal EGR feed.

Yeah its a 94-95 Cobra manifold, here is some pics of the upper and lower.

So the upper will work ok with this lower,if it has no EGR passage, but the lower has?

even if i'm not deleting my EGR stuff?

That port is just a heat riser, it's not the EGR on the 94-95 maifolds at least. It's supposed to help heat the intake and make the fuel vaporize better, aid combustion, etc... on a cold motor to reduce emissions I believe.

No, it is an EGR port, plain and simple. Like I said, they used that lower for many years in many different applications, not just the 94/95 Cobras. So, rather than retool all their molds, they chose to use the same basic lower intake and change the upper to suit the needs as per situation.

Since our cars get EGR gasses from the passenger header, there was no need to run the internal EGR further than the lower intake. If you install a Fox Cobra upper intake on that lower, the internal EGR will function exactly the same.

And yes Jim, the EGR will function the same either way. When you slap the upper on there, it will block that port in the lower and it won't even be an issue at all. Just put all the EGR stuff from your old intake onto this Cobra intake and you're all set!

This information is all correct, I wasn't trying to say any different. However on our style of manifold, this port serves to let hot exhaust gases 'brew' in the lower intake, heating up the whole manifold. Granted, the heat will transfer eventually between the heads and the lower even with the ports blocked off, but it takes more time. I blocked mine the last time I had it apart, and the upper stays about 15* or so cooler, according to my hand thermometer (probably less accurate than a butt dyno). Just an opinion.

Dont worry yourself with this, it will bolt up with no problem.
Its because that was the explorer intake also and it had all the internal EGR stuff.
