I just recieved my pa performance alt. its a 3g 95 amp. I read how you guys are changing to larger gauge wires and fuse blocks and such. Is all that necessary for mine being its only 95 amp? The customer service at mustangs unlimited said that this is just a straight swap. I just want to make sure first. Honestly i dont think there customer service every perforfmed an oil change before.

No way would I personally run more than the output of a stock alt through the stock wiring. I would do a wiring upgrade. Making a new fused charge cable isnt that tough.

Good luck.

The stock wiring is two 10 gauge wires that have a total rating of 60 amps. Don't expect to push 95 amps through them and not have a fire.

See WWW.partsexpress.com for the fuse & fuse holder.
Fuse @ $3.90 each (need one) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=071-952

Fuseholder @ $5.80 each (need one) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=263-630

4 gauge black wire @ $1.25 a foot (use string to lay out routing & determine length) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=100-196

4 gauge red wire @ $1.25 a foot (use string to lay out routing & determine length) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=100-194

4 gauge ring crimp terminals (package of 5) $3.25. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=095-584

3/4 “ Black heat shrink tubing, 4ft length, $3.56
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=082-058

3/4 “ Red heat shrink tubing, 4ft length, $3.56

Pre-fab 4 gauge cables with lugs already on the ends are available in most auto parts stores. Look for the starter switch to starter cables.

Any car that has a 3G or high output current alternator needs
a 4 gauge ground wire running from the block to the chassis
ground where the battery pigtail ground connects.

The 3G has a 130 amp capacity, so you wire the power side
with 4 gauge wire. It stands to reason that the ground side
handles just a much current, so it needs to be 4 gauge too.

The picture shows the common ground point for the battery & alternator

The piece of mind is well worth the additional cost. I fried the #10 wires with a stock alternator and almost set my car on fire. For me any upgrade in the alternator makes a wiring upgrade MANDATORY.

Yup, it's a couple extra bucks to upgrade to the thicker wire, but it'll be done right. It's simple to do,and it'll make the car safe to drive.

yea you should be able to find them there but you might want to try and get them at a local car stereo store since it will usually be cheaper there then say circuit city or bestbuy

Nothing wrong with the parts that Jrichner has posted. I got my fuse holder and fuse from Napa

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=7821143&Description=Fuse+Holder

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=7821136&Description=Fuse+-+Automotive

The cables I used were switch to starter cables that you can buy off the shelf at an auto parts store. The only mod I did to the cables was have a smaller end put on one and grind down the connector on another.

I think I spent like maybe $25 for piece of mind.

Thanks for listening too, it is good advise to upgrade the wiring.
