Help with shocks

Hey,

I have had H&R super sport springs for a while at first the stock shocks were just fine and ride was the same as stock or pretty close atleast....now that they have been on for a while every decent bump feels like a speed bump at high speed they hit hard and I can't take it much longer.....I don't know that much about shocks/struts and was wondering if someone could help me out on reccomending something for me.....the car is a 99GT it is a daily driver, I do drive it like a race car. I will make an occassional run to the track.... Would like it to be a good handler yet still be a comfortable ride....What would be good for me???

The biggest "bang for the buck" with the H&R SS springs would have to be Mach I shocks and struts. The SS springs are not overly stiff, but do require a slightly higher valve rate for the shocks. The Mach I shocks are Tokico Premiums that are valved to Fords specs for the stiffer/lower springs (compared to a GT) that are used on the Mach I. I have had the H&R SS and Mach I combo for about 4k miles and couldn't be happier. The ride is close to stock unless you get into some really rough pavement and handles like its on rails. Also How long did you run the stock shock?
I just put H&R's and I'm looking into the 5 ways How log do I have before I run into the same problem you have now??
My car had 10k on it when i put the H&R's in? How many more miles till they blow out?

If the mach 1 shocks are tokico's also why is there such a price difference? Is the 400+ ones adjustable and the ones on the mach aren't or what? Gas charged?

I am right around 50,000 miles but they seemed to be fine for about 6,000 miles after I put the new springs on.....they go bad pretty fast you will definately start to notice your car pounding the small bumps, but don't let me scare all the guys thinking about h&r's they are a good spring as long as your shocks are good.

The Mach I's are the Tokico Premiums which are the non-adjustable shocks and the Illuminas are adjustable and around $400.

is it worth it for the adjustables? i guess you could set it up for a smooth ride when not at the track and then at the track for best performance.

I have a 00 GT with Eibach springs and the illumina 5 way adjustables. I to was experianceing HARD hits on even the smallest of bumps about 3 months after putting the springs on. I used the car as a daily driver so i was probably in the rang of about 10k before it really started to get bad.

I added the illumina's and the car handles like it is on rails. So good in fact that the usual on ramp with the speed of about 45 is now taken at 80 and climbing, and I only have them set to 3 on the dial. This would probably explain why i need new front tires They were by far the best performace enhancer yet for the car, by spending the extra money I got a strut that is comfortable when I want to cruise and rock solid when I hit the track.

The adjustables are fine if your actually going to use the different settings. A lot of people find 1 setting and stick with it. If your not going to be adjusting the settings then save youself some $$$ and go with the mach 1 tokicos. The #3 setting on the adjustables are probably close to the mach 1's...

I like my bilstiens. lifetime waranty not limited at all. I was real pleased with the maximum motorsports cc plates and my bilstiens. made the install perfect. no extra bumpstops or crap to install. you can raise you struts up to compensate for the lowering of the car. just spacer the struts to corect fro the amount lowered and your ready to rock. no regrets here.

I would not run the ajustable tokico's in the rear. they ajust from the top. pain in the ass to get to. look for somthing that is ajustable from the bottom. if you want ajustability

I am too lazy to bother with ajustment.


might take a look at the kyb ajustables if you are on a budget. I think they adjust from the bottom.
