2001 GT with ABS Brakes

The abs light comes on after car is warm and driven @ 40 mph and will stay on for 15 - 20 minutes then go off.

I took it to STS (They said their machine can read ABS codes). When I took it there the light was off and they said no stored codes with key on or anything else.

So I'm guessing I have to take it there with the light on?

Does anyone know what the Dealership would do to diagnose?

Finally got the light to come on at STS. They put their Snap On handheld scanner on and it gave nothing but errors when try to retrieve ABS codes. It wouldn't let them even get to the ABS menu.

I'm starting to think their scanner won't work. I'll take it to the dealer on Thursday morning and see what happens

I would try to communicate witht he abs module with a ford scan tool when this problem is happening. If you are unable to communicate I would suspect

1. power or ground concern to the abs module, a intermittent loss of communication could indicate a chaffed wire that is making intermittent contact.

2. bad abs module

3. network fault. since all the modules communicate and share inputs if there is a problem in that part of the network you would not be able to communicate with the abs module. The network hub is the instrument cluster module. see if you can communicate with the gem or rcm or any other module when this happens.

WHat size tires are you running? Same size front and rear?

Sometimes with different sizes the computer sees a difference and disables the ABS for that one cycle until restart.

Unfortunately, I'm still running the stock 17's with 245/45's

I'm hoping to switch to those 18" Konigs that Maximum Motorsports stocks. They're only 24 Lbs. a piece. But first I have to install all my suspension crap that came yesterday.

If this winds up to be the control module, I won't be getting those rims anytime soon

I'm hoping it's just a sensor or else Randy's getting a call....

Dealer is looking at it now....

It was the entire ABS control module that was faulty?
