Something else to consider when you go to the track, take out everything in the trunk, the rear seat and front seat if feasible, and if you have the money get some slicks or some DR's.

well, i'm really trying to stay out of racing now. I'm really scared of tearing my car up, i've seen a lot of GT's get torn up out at the track lately and i'm getting a little worried. I'm only gonna be taking it out there once every couple of months, but i may buy some 15's and get some mickey thompson e/t's for them

Best thing for you is to stop spending money on speed parts and start spending them on suspension parts.

Power is no good if you cant get it to the ground.

Hmm....most stock ones put down about 285 rwhp/310 rwtq, but their torque curve is a lot broader than ours.

Just checked some stock rwhp figures over at the LS1.com, they are saying the LT1's dyno around 250-260rwhp

yeh, sounds about right and they are a little heavier which explains why it is a drivers race(stock for stock)

Ya, 250rwhp seems to be about the average, some of these guys have some pretty wild claims though This is what I was checking out earlier:http://69.56.235.42/forums/showthread.php?t=548531&page=1&pp=50

You're thinking LS1s....the 97 has an LT1...different powerband.

LT-1's are not too bad up top either. if you want too run a 350 that has nothing up top you need too go back too TPI.

i think she needs to get a compression check done on that LT-1 if you are spining thru second and still able too pull even with her . either that or she is spinning too. you don't have enough mods done too reel in a LT-1 with that much of a lead on you. before this car i had a LT-1 6 speed and it was a 13.6 car with NO mods.

my friends AUTOMATIC 94 Z bone stock ( this run was back in 1996) ran 13.9@98 some autos have run as fast as 13.7 in good air.

a lot of people think pre LS-1 f-bodys are dogs, and that is just flat out not true. they are slightly faster than a 99+ GT

don't get me wrong you can beat her. but spinning thru the 1-2 gear change she would have put several cars on you by then if she hooked at all.

That's good!!

Ya, if your spinning at all, you'd only see the back end of that d*** LT1, if it was running right.

she's got a moroso cai, and flowmaster catback.. and from her take off and how it feels when i drive it, i think it may have some aftermarket gears in it. everytime i get into a race, ESPECIALLY this one since we've been wantin to race for 2 months to see which is faster, i always get anxious and just dump the clutch.. it took me halfway thru 2nd to get traction.. so she was all the way thru the intersection b4 i was halfway.. but as soon as i hooked, i pulled reeeaallyyyy hard on her.. then thru half of 3rd we ran dead even and after that my car started pullin on her bad. right as i got window-to-window she let off and said she won.. which pissed me off because i was coming up hard and i was about to run off and leave her.. she did it both times. so if i can get traction on takeoff i can walk it, but it's hard for me to

Uhhh intersection??? Hope its a dead street, cause racing through an intersection doesn't sound to bright. Or did you start right at the light of the intersection?

On another note, thats AWESOME that you found a chick to race and she's cool about it [/leghump]

yah.. we raced again last night and it was still the same outcome, except i had more tire spin. she's my ex-girlfriend/best friend. She told me to drive her car to see what kind of power it has compared to mine, and to say the least, I was impressed. The damn thing hooks pretty good, it spins a bit but not that much. Now she wants to find one day when they'll let her off work for a little while so she can run her car, since she works out at the drag strip. (That's how I got interested in the drag strip, going to see her every saturday)

We raced from a stop at the same intersection everytime, we just basically said "go on green" and went from there. She hooks up really good in that car. Last night she got me really bad on takeoff but as soon as i got traction i started pulling really hard on her and finally passed her only doin about 70. The past couple times, it was up around 100 before I passed her because I had to make up so much ground from spinning.

I still suck at taking off tho, I get to anxious when I race her and I just dump the clutch. There was a bit of a crowd last night and they told me my car was just about sideways when i took off, so that didnt help me any. It kinda makes me a little nervous about racing the '94 Z28 6-speed now, if that auto can run that good altho it's supposedly got 10 more hp from the factory than the 93-96's.

I figure i'll advance my timing a little bit, and get that crank underdrive pulley put on here in a couple weeks. The previous owner forgot to get it put on when he had his pulleys put on, so he still has it and told me he'd give it to me next time I went up there where he lives.. So i'm hoping maybe i can get just a hair more and learn to takeoff

if you start to feel your tires spin, ease off the gas and dont keep it floored...when you feel the traction return, FLOOR it
