A House
Couple of days ago, I was driving home and my 93 5.0 started to over heat. Within a mile from my house, I hear a loud poof (it wasn’t a pop,) come from under the car. It sounded as if I blew a radiator hose but they are intact. As soon as this happened, the car didn’t die but I lost torque and horsepower and barely rolled into my driveway. After it cooled down, I can start it and it will run but its running very ruff. I’m not getting any smoke nor do I have any leaks of any kind. At first I thought it might be a piston but I am not hearing any kind of metal clanking or anything like that. Could this be a head gasket? It seems like the timing may be off also. I know its hard to diagnose things over the net but any ideas what to check would be nice. I have not done a leak down test yet. Could it be a bad cat?

Thanks,
Jeff

Have you checked to see if any cylinders are dropping? A cylinder balance test is a nice way to check this.

Good luck.
