no problem. That list was compiled by a knowlagable member on here and do not deviate from it as it is listed as most common issues to least common.

Remove the battery and check the fusible links an ground wires and make sure everything is tight and in good shape. Install the battery and start the car and let it idle then drive 10-15 miles and check the codes again it should be gone . I just had the same problem a code 96.. after i change the fuel filter.. sometimes it's the simple things that will cause stupid codes ..like bad ground wires or a loose wire. Also i had the same code two years ago and it went away..if you slam the trunk too hard sometimes you will get that code.

why is he playing with fusible links ? car runs link is either good or bad ..... checking grounds and such is never a bad thing but the surging idle check list gets to that

I told him to check and see to make sure it's not any fusible links that are burning up/ and open circuit/broken wire anywhere..because that would cause a code 96. And a bad or loose ground wire would also cause idle surge and stalling.. also a vacuum leak would cause surge/stall. With wiring ..either good or bad ..please check because broken wiring will cause this code and if the computer keeps this code in the memory your car will idle bad and stall. That's a nice idle surge check list and it's very helpful but sometime's it's good to check everything..because something simple will cause alot of problems and will cause you to spend alot money. Also check the cutoff switch in the trunk ..because you can slam the trunk too hard and it will cause this code 96. I had the same problem before.. you car will run with a code 96 .. but it will not idle good plus it will stall on cold start alot. Also did your car idle bad before the code 96? if so try cleaning your throttle body.

If you got a code 11 first and then a 96 as a memory code don't worry. But sometimes a code 41 and 91 will cause the computer to throw a code 96. I have seen when there is a wiring problem in the o2 sensor harness and or the o2 sensors are bad you will get a code 11 41 91 and a memory code 96. Your engine may be running lean..causing your car to stall and lose power. Have you replaced the o2 sensors lately?

not since ive had the car i checked for continuity in the ground for the 02s, the orange wire on the back side of injector harness, to the battery as well as the body and its grounded i do not have an analog multi meter to test the 02s i will look up prices for the 02s and when checking over it i did a wiggle test on the computer ground plug and it failed i am going to replace the wire as far back as needed and see if that helps anything i am hoping this is the problem cause between that and only hitting on 7 i had a hard time beating my buddys pretty much stock 88 gt
