ok so for the past month ive been dealing with neighbors ( i live in a 5 apt complex style house) goin outside and flippin the breaker switches and finally had enough. went out last week and bought a padlock for my own personal breaker box. tonight our landlord came poundin on my door rippin my as cuz the ho's upstairs next to us had an outlet go bad which wasnt even plugged into anything. told him i was tired of my computer being shutoff all the time cuz of them not knowing how to check for an actual blown breaker instead they just flip all the switches. mind you the dumbnuts below us has done it also. he (landlord) proceeded to tell me i couldnt do that blah blah. sad part is my computer has almost 2500 bucks in hardware installed on it and had to reformat it 1 time so far which pissed me off and spent 12 hours reinstalling everything.

heres my question. should i just let him have an earfull since i never got to say what i wanted cuz i was so pissed off and walked away from knockin his ass out. or should i just wait until march when the lease runs out when i have everything packed up ready to move somewhere else and tell him to F*** Off ?

your opinions are wanted whether positive or negative

get a back up UPS box.

Pretty much just a big backup battery for your computer. Power goes off, it kicks on and your computer stays on as well.

In the mean time, mess with their breakers. maybe they will learn.
Or just mark which ones go to your place.

wait till march, you dont want to have to find another place to live... get all your stuff packed up... take pics of it, take a pic of your land lord.. then knock him out and take a pic of him on the ground.. a battery back up is a good idea... they only last about 15- 30 min.. but its more then enought time to shut it down properly...

If they're semi intelligent and actually will listen to you for 5 min, I think it would be in everyone's best interest if you just label your breakers and tell them that turning those off will not help them as they are to your apartment. At work, we have certain ones labeled with white out. Maybe label THEIRS with white out and tell them to ONLY turn the white ones off.

I wouldn't recommend beating anyone up as that won't solve anything. Definately do not do it in front of witnesses and DO NOT take pictures! You could ask the landlord to figure out why exactly the circuit breakers are blowing though.

If all fail to cooperate, I'd definately turn theirs off randomly. Maybe even the water too - best time would be if you can somehow tell if they're in the shower.

You definately don't want to get them mad enough to do something to your car though.

Good Luck!

I'm glad I never will live in apartments. I can't stand dealing with people - especially morons like this. I have a hard enough time at work - I'd definately flip my lid if I had to deal with people like that at home.

It is illegal to padlock a breaker panel like that, so yes he does have a reason to be pissed.

They do sell breaker locks that you put over a single breaker to keep it from being flipped. They use it all the time on emergency lighting circuits. Downside is if anything happens to the wiring and there is a short, it will just keep cooking until it starts a fire. Prob not a good idea either.

I usually put red tape over breakers with DON"T TOUCH written on them when i don't want someone to shut one off on me

Most breakers from the past 15-20 years are called "trip free" meaning that even if they are held or locked in the on position they will still trip and turn off the power to the circuit.

The best way to solve this problem is get a back up UPS and plug your computer into it. Since they are probably just flipping breakers and then turning them back on the UPS should take care of your problem.

Marking the breakers as other have suggested is also a good idea.

Gotta agree with the above suggestions to LABEL the breakers. That way, if they still insist on clicking off your power, then they're either illiterate or they're deliberately messing with you - in either case, then you've got a solid case to take against the landlord to have him either address the butthole neighbors' stupidity, or to contract an electrician to rig up a separate breaker box for each apartment. (The latter isn't likely to happen, though, because that sorta thing ain't cheap.)

If all else fails, move. You're in a rental, you don't own, so you're not really forced in any way to put up with that sort of headache. If they've got you stuck in a lease, then they're pretty much obligated to let you out of it (if they're unwilling to work with you); if they STILL insist on being jerks about the lease, then document everything you can (times, dates, photos, whatever - start doing it NOW) and take 'em to court.

Leave a piece of meat or bologna in the box, so that after a week or so they'll open the box and pass out from the smell.

had a talk with the landlord today and he understood why i put the lock on there. took me a few times to get the point across to him but he understood. he said he will leave the lock on there so he has the extra key that way the other tenants cant switch them off all the time. said this has happened before and im the only one to actually put a lock on there lol. oh well guess when the lease runs out in march im movin to a different place preferably a house with a garage lol.
