New here to stangnet.I just bought a 1988 LX coupe.High KMS,pretty much stock.Looking for some good mods to start with for low$$$.
Must be someone on here with a low budget like myself?
Thanks

First, welcome to the boards :D

Easy mods are:
- Remove air silencer and put CAI or K/N open filter
- Bump timing to whatever number of degrees. Usually, 14* is a good number. If it pings, take it back til it doesnt ping anymore.
- Off-road H-pipe is a pretty good mod. Fairly cheap as well. Increases flow and reduce weight.
- This might cost you a little bit more but its an extremely GREAT mod: GEARS. If you're auto, I'd go at least 4:10.......If you're 5speed, 3:73's are great all-around gears.

Hey Focker... I like the username...

Where do you live? I'd start with a good old fashion tune-up. New Motorcraft plugs, wires, Cap+rotor, etc... Check the brakes to make sure they aren't worn out. As for performance I'd go with gears 3:73 or 4:10 depending on how much highway you do. If not gears, I'd find some underdrive pullies. Remove AC stuff...

Oh yeah, I forgot the pulleys. Excellent mod for the cost. :nice:

Yeah I noticed how hard the clutch is on even the 4 banger... just as bad as my F150, I got stuck in traffic for 4 hours with the truck, man to this day I think my left leg is larger than my right. Just like my right arm is larger than my left haha!

I wonder if you can slap a hydrolic clutch slave cylinder and etc... into an 88 fox body...

Shift kit, but taller gears would be my first mod... then save up for a complete build up with heavy duty clutches and bands ($1200 approx. with 1 year warranty).

I would still do the shift kit first :D .

Especially on a 95 like my convertible. Taller gears are great and all until you repeatedly smash your rev limiter at WOT  . Lets just say after that happenned, I had my Lentech valve body installed right after.
