Hey, my window wont go up

My drivers side window motor took a crap on me today. (definately the electic motor) I took it to the dealership and got a quite of about $250 to replace the motor, but this seems a bit high. Has anyone ever replaced one of these? If so what's involved and how difficult is it and is it even worth it to do it myself?

That blows, is your warranty out? I would do it myself, $250 to replace it is too much in my book.

Geeze! how is your warrenty out on a 2003?

$250 is about right for a dealer....motorcrap parts typically have a 100% dealer markup... I would go to a reputable parts store and pick up one and do it yourself. Should be pretty easy. I have done lots of them on all kinds of Fords...Focus', Taurus'... but never a newer mustang. Weird!

on the volvo that i replaced that today the hardest part was the rivets the gun we hard didnt want to fit i cut my hand pretty good though the gloves

I am not sure on the newer cars but the motor in my 94 died just the other day. There were 3 bolts that held the motor onto the regulator and that was it. I pulled it out and put a repair kit in it. I think the repair kit for my motor was like $5.00. Check at a local wrecking yard for a repair kit. The kit is 3 small nylon bushings. Sounds kida weird but it worked great for me.

yeah sounds more like american to me easy to work on and change parts

Yep, warranty is out...bought it in Nov. 02 and drive every day....what's the point in having it if you're not going to drive it. Sounds like it its not too tough so I'll give it a try. Thanks all.

I did a crown vic one day, there was three dimples in the door skin, drill them out and you have access to the motor screws.
Buy a dyno mat door kit and line the door while your in there !

I bought the motor at Pep Boy, lifetime warranty.

I just looked at my Ford DVD, looks like cake to change.........

Remove the door trim panel
Remove the screws and the speaker
Disconnect the electrical connector
Remove the screws and the window regulator motor

Are you sure it's shot?

Your car is WAY to new for it to just die.

I've had this happen to me before in this car and my '99 v6.

I gets stuck down or up (either way it won't move) and you just have to keep trying really. I'd try taking the key out, putting it back in and continue to press up and down on the window button.

Something of that nature eventually forced it to give way. Again, it's happened to me several times and takes a few minutes of trying to fix ... then a few months later its back again.

Thats one of the many problems with the build quality of the Mustang. I've had nothing but trouble with my stupid seatbelts to. I had to take it into Ford once to have them replace a spring because it was stuck OPEN which wouldn't allow the strap to come out any further. It has happened in my neighbor's 'stang as well.
