thanks for having a look everyone. I am considering a full resto on my 88 GT, but was wondering what you guys have paid for similair FOX resto's. If your shop gave you the prices individually (paint, stripping, parts, labor etc) I would really appreciate knowing those b/c I won't need them to do stripping/drivetrain install as I would do those myself. Also about how long did it take to get back and any other info you think i should know appreciated. i know the cost would vary on current condition - mine isnt too bad (needs paint some tiny rust), but i wanna do this within the next few years before it gets worse leading to higher costs/possibility of complete loss so i gotta start saving now.

All depends on what you want it to do. Like the old musclecars, someday sooner than later these will be worth more stock, and harder to come by that way. Seems some teenager or butcher has gotten ahold of all the 5.0's, or the racecar guys have stripped them down to make the latest 9 second car in a long line of 9 second cars. Think of what you want done, pick a place you think does good work. If you can handle a job yourself, it'll will always be cheaper- a lot cheaper. If you want it done right, it might take more time, but will almost certainly cost more. Main thing, see the car how you want it, and make that car- one step at a time

theres a couple cars on here that are beautifuly restored.. i cant remember his name, but one guy on here had a black gt that was about all stock except for wheels, and had the entire rebuilt factory motor polished and chromed out.. its was a beautiful black gt.. he moved to germany though for the airforce..

so pretty much you're asking how much it would cost for body work and a paint job. That will depend on what kinda paint you use and how much body work is required. The best and most accurate estimate would probably come from local body/paint shops. Tell them you'd like to do a resto and would like a quote for just body work and paint and they'll give you an estimate, which may or may not be the final cost. Consider if you want a new hood/bumpers, etc.

One day, I'd like to do a complete rebuild of a fox, but I'll choose a cheap POS one to buy and just tear it apart and spend my time rebuilding w/ all of the stuff I want.

There is some serious hardware on this site, lots of guys with nicely done cars. I guess I was surprised when I saw the word "restore" here. It ages me, like I still think of these beasts as newer cars I like to play around with. My first car, a 69 GTO, was only 10 years old when I got it, but that seemed to be the "old" musclecar. Cars I raced in my day don't get restored cause they're not old, but my first 5.0 was in 87, my LX now is twice as old as my goat was, but it still doesn't feel that way, right? Musclecar Review magazine wrote in, like, 89, that someday people would be restoring 5.0's, is that now?

Unfortunately yes, that time is now.. hence 50resto.com and other said sites... I too remember these things coming out as new and it just kills me they are in need of this restoration as well...

Makes us the old guys? Sheesh! Lotta guys in the military on this site, which I like, but somewhere in there, I became too old to join! Just got this computer thing, still figuring it out- can't even post pic's or those little cartoon guys on it, so I'm glad I knew the car well enough to at least appear learned! For everyone doing "restoration" on their 5.0, go, man, go!

Yeah, we're getting to that point. Thing is, there are still some very clean unrestored examples out there for comparatively reasonable money. Very low-mile (<15,000), near-perfect, unmodified V8 Foxes are getting about $12k these days. Now is the time to lay hands on one of those while they're still affordable. Restoring - and I mean really restoring - a car that's had normal use for the past 15+ years will cost a lot more.

Here are pics of my notchback. I started on May 26th and ended up with what you see on July 14th. I worked on it 14 days out of those two months...I really worked hard to get her done to enjoy for the season. Note the car was a 4cylinder auto, and it was wrecked in the front and note the rear quarter panel. This was a great restoration and I am very very satisfied.

I like this car more than having a new one. Because of the time you put in it. I would rather leave a new 06 Mustang GT in a parking lot than my notchback. You will take more pride in a restored FOX than having a new car.

I will not mention what I have in it money wise....but it is dirt cheap......

Oh man, that sucks, because those are the only ones I have available. My program on my computer is screwed up right now, I can't make a connection with my USB from my camera. Those pics on that site have been there since August.
