He did have a pretty detailed affection for it whenever he first got it.
Regardless don't let the downsides of owning a older car steer you away. Plenty of ups to go with the downs.
Just remember its a learning process and at some point you will either be grateful for your car and what you have done and know EVERYTHING about it and how it starts to act whenever its messing up. OR you will hate your life because you decided to spend tons of money making it something you dreamed of and realized it is a never ending journey with sports cars
