I was re-using my ARP head bolts and the lower one on #1 snapped off with 70lbs of torque. and 1/2 of it's still threaded into the block!

1.) I have new bolts now and I'm going to replace them all but would I need to buy another set of hg's since these have already been compressed on?

2.) If the broken end falls into the motor am I screwed?

1) If your tq it back down 5 more lbs of tq you should be fine (according to a summit rep I spoke to once about this problem).
2) Let's not find out...

I 've done similar things with crush gaskets, on airplane engines. Granted, I wasn't in the best of locations, but, I flew on the plane also and didn't feel bad about what I had done. I'm not an engineer, just a technician, but it makes perfect sense to me, and it worked, too.
Good luck

I took my heads back off after tourqing them down. I had not started the engine though. You will be fine as long as it wasn't started.

I'm all done and I just went to get a new one. The other 2 I took off were obliterated and showing clear signs of 18psi.
