Im new to the Mustang world (ownership that is) i have a question and many more prob. But i have purchased an 83 HB that originally had a 4 cyl. In it and someone converted it to a 302 V8. The question i have is someone previous stripped out the threads in the bottom hole for the starter and lm looking to be going to a swap meet next weekend and go in search of another bellhousing with good starter mounting threads. I have done a little research in this and is there a way to find out what bellhousing i need without pulling the trans and get the part number off of the bellhousing thats on it? Or is it a guessing game if i dont pull it? I appreciate any and all input i get from all you fine folks on it. Thanks, and have a great one!!

You can helicoil the bolt hole in the bellhousing instead of getting a replacement bellhousing. Run a tap through the hole the same size as the helicoil and then screw it in. Problem solved.

I agree. Helicoil is about a 10 min fix in most cases.
