Hi guys,
I’m hoping to own a 1989 4.0 Automatic that is currently for sale. Owner says it runs but needs tires and an alternator. He’s selling it for $1,850. I’m going into this blind but I’m interested in picking it up. He has a 5.0 but he’s asking for $8,000 which is out of my budget currently.

sounds fair for a running car but I’d like to know what I’m getting into. I have a shop and some (beginner) experience with restoring.
Is this car worth investing in?

First...

Second...

"Investing in"? No.

Outside of that, if it's a Notch for that money and not a rusted out nightmare, I [might] could consider if I already had the budget set aside to make it worth a crap.

If $8k is out of your budget than I would pass. This is not the DD you're looking for. You're going to put $8k in it just to get the mechanicals done and that's [before] rebuilding or replacing the engine.

I had pictures but it didn’t post. Here it is and you’re definitely right. I’m not expecting this to be a DD just something for fun and a collection. But still yeah I should hold off for the 5.0.

Honestly that's a pretty fair price for here in Washington as long as it works as advertised. You could probably get the guy to knock a few hundred bucks off that too. But you better do your due diligence to make sure it actually runs and drives and isn't rusty.

Could eventually be worth something fixed up and 5.0 swapped but you're not gonna make any money that's for sure. I might be able to help you out if you want to go that route, I'm up in Seattle with a former 2.3 auto that has been swapped so I know my way around the process and have some parts.
