Okay, sound this out .... " tah tah tah tah tah".

Now do it faster and faster until you're as fast as an engine @ 3500-5500 rpms. I'm getting this noise under hard acceleration. I know I need an EGR, but I'm not sure if this noise is related. And I also know if I need an EGR (as bad as I do) then I probably shouldn't be beating on the car. But sometimes it's neccesary, I'm sure ya'll can relate.

Any idea what the noise is? Any particular place to look and listen? It's kinda hard to differentiate the noise from anything because of the exhaust tone. So any help would be appreciated.

does it do it while under load or just sitting still reving it.

it seems as though it only does it when it's under load... not quite sure... like i said, it's hard to tell the difference. but now that i think of it, i can slightly hear it when sitting still. i jsut drove it and seems like any load, not the 3500-5500 rpm i mentioned before. i took a corner and accelerated out and i could hear it... not as loud but it is there.

does it sound like valve train lash or maybe timing ,spark knock, whats it at?

Does it have any affect on performance while it is doing it? Could it be ping? Is your timing advanced? Bad EGR could lead to pinging.

if it ONLY does it under load, ide look at anything pertaining to the exhaust system,(leaks)

Could be an exhaust leak too.

It doesn't appear to have the balls it used to... I don't know, it may be mental. I've had the car for 3 1/2 months so I don't know about the timing. I doubt it is? But again, I'm not sure, I would have to check. I do indeed have a bad EGR and my local Mustang Guru ( who's car can be seen in the latest MMFF for Fun Ford in Norwalk, Top 10 second car ) says I have spark knock. I guess he know's this because on occasion it will accelerate slowly then BAM! it'll go and also it bucks on occasion but not a lot lately. Whatever... if it is ping or lash or whatever... what kind of damage am i doing and what do I do to correct it?

ps: i have an egr simulator in the mail to me. so hopefully that'll make a difference.

Definition from Wikepedia: Knocking (also called pinking or pinging)—technically detonation—in internal combustion engines occurs when fuel/air mixture in the cylinder has been ignited by the spark plug and the smooth burning is interrupted by the unburned mixture in the combustion chamber exploding before the flame front can reach it. Combusting stops suddenly, because of the explosion, before the optimum moment of the four-stroke cycle. The resulting shockwave reverberates in the combustion chamber and pressures increase catastrophically, creating a characteristic metallic "pinging" sound.

Can cause some really bad failures internally.

You can start by checking the base timing. Stock is 10 degrees BTDC with the SPOUT disconnected. Using a higher octane fuel can help avoid knock for the short term. I would avoid driving the car rough until you get the issue fixed.
