High rpm revs when depressing clutch

I have a 94 Ranger (5 speed). The other day I was about to drive it and noticed that whenever I depressed the clutch and let off it would rev up to about 3k rpms. I hadn't driven it in a few weeks but prior to that there were no problems - as a matter of fact, I ran a scan and checked for codes about the last time I drove it and all was well . What could be the problem?

I plan to run a scan and check for any codes but thought I get some possibilities.

Update:

I ran the scan - both KOEO and KOER - and it checked out ok. So I performed the normal diagnostics of the IAC and cleaned it and it checked out ok. Then I began messing with the accelarator cable and bracket and discovered that the accelerator bracket and or the accelerator cable is sticking. The bracket spring tensioners that returns the cable to it's normal position is hanging open and slowly returns to the closed position.

I called the dealership and they want $114 just for the accelerator cable, but they discontinued the bracket. I've called a couple of other local parts store and no dice. I know I can go to the salvage yard and possibly find what I need, but as an alternative to a used piece, does anyone know where I can get a new accelarator bracket assembly and cable?
