The Highway patrol uses them here in Florida. Does anyone have any idea on what is the difference between those cars and the stock version (performance wise)? Just curious.....

umm sport cpmpact magazine did a test on all of the off hte police cars currently in use in the us. The Caramo went through the 1/4 mile in the 14.5 range and topped out at a pretty high 160 mph.

The police issue camaro is known as the B4C Camaro if I'm not mistaken. It really isn't much different from a stock Z28. Only differences might be some weight reduction, and safety/reliability features. Don't quote me though.

Here in CT the state police uses Camaro SS and they have a few Mustangs. Back in the day they had a few Grand National with the FBI chip. Very very fast.

I saw my first Camaro highway patrol guy in SoCal the other day. Kinda cool. As for cop cars having weight reduction, that's incorrect... they add a LOT of weight to those things with all the electronics and pushbars and the such. From what I've heard, cop cars are more geared (literally) for topspeed and not acceleration.

I witnessed a police chase yesterday. I was coming down the road and some guy on a rice rocket motorcycle came flying up, he had to be doing over 100, no question. In the distance a cop in a crown vic came flying up a few seconds later, he was probably doing 70-80. He chased the guy about a half mile up the road and gave up. There was no way he was going to catch that thing. I could see the bike in my rearview swearving around cars and through traffic. Definately interesting to see. That a stupid thing to do. Forget the danger he puts himself in, but what about other drivers and the life of the officer chasing him. So people should use their brain sometimes.

Some LT1 B4C's had a/c delete, and some had a radio delete, there might be some other deletions I can't recall right now. The LS1 B4C's are almost identical to regular Z28's, pretty much just unbadged Z's really. They came with a higher amp alternator to compensate for the added electronics. Basically, they're nothing more than a Z28 in disguise.

hey Marine One I know you dont get to see him down there but up here on 70 we have a 01 black gt. he has a the flashing headlights and all and a very thin lite bar on top that is very hard to see until he is up close. other than that he is completly unmarked and you dont even see him or think anything of it until he passes you. he came up to one of our weekly cruise ins at the sonic in havelock, real cool guy, let us take pics and then when he left he chirped 2nd.

I didn't know they were still running any Mustangs. They were running unmarked Fox body 5.0 LX's a number of years ago. I was coming down US 258 on the outskirts of Kinston one evening several years ago and was behind a light blue 5.0 LX. I could just barely see two blue lights on each side of the rear package shelf. Some guy in a ricer blew around me, then the LX, and the man nailed him before he ever knew what hit him. The Camaros are either all black with small white letters on the front that spell out "STATE TROOPER" or silver & black with the same lettering. I've also seen a black Jeep Cherokee with the white lettering as well.

Here in NY, all we got are CAMARO's.

Very nicely packaged, and nicely done up by the department.

They are Dark Blue, with State Trooper markings, along with a low profile light bar.

Only seen a couple of CHP white Camaros here in California. Luckily when I saw them they had pulled someone else over on the road...knock on wood.

All V8 F-bodies had the corvette engine in them. LT1 and LS1 were stock Corvette motors. Only Corvettes that have different engines are ZO6's which have the LS6 or LT4. Some special edition 97' Camaro's were available with the LT4 engine. It's very unlikely a police camaro has anything other than a traditional LT1 or LS1 engine.

I've seen them out in southern cali... frequently I can say. I agree that weight reduction would be worthless with all that crap that they put in them. Makes sense to gear them for top speed if they are highway patrol...you know what I mean

Yeah, one time I have a red one come up to me on a 50mph street, but he came up to me on the unmarked side, so I was like oh I see a race about to happen, then I see these goofy mirrors with red lights in them, and I switched a couple lanes and it says Troy Police on the drivers side!!! I was like goo thing I didn't drop no gears, or do anything else stupid.
