ho motor

i just bought i think a ho roller motor ,the cast numbers are e7te -ca,from what i can tell its a 1987 ,can anyone verify this,were these motors any good,its bored .30 over with flat top pistons,e7te heads,stock cam and a edelbrock airgap manifold wit a holley 600,also does anyone have any idea what hp i can get out of this,thankyou for helping

225hp/ 300 ft/lbs torque with what you listed. And that's if it's got an HO cam. It's very well possible to be a pickup/van 5.0 with the heads it's got. As far as possibilities, that only depends on the money you put into it. With an HO cam, and the right heads, 400hp+ isn't unrealistic.

In stock (fuel injected) form, the '87 Mustang GT 5.0L H.O. was factory rated at 225 hp.

Starting in '87, Ford began using the E7TE heads from the Ford truck parts bins on the Mustang engines, because the heads Ford had tried on the H.O. Mustangs in '86 didn't live up to expectations.

A 5.0L production block can withstand up to 500 hp, but you will need reinforcement such as a stud girdle, forged rod, steel crank, etc. To get an engine to this horse power level, however, will require substantial cash out lay to get it there.

For street use, you can realistically get it in the 300 horse power range without too much damage to your pocket book.

If it's got flattops its either not an H.O. or it's a 86 H.O., but I would imagine it's a non- H.O. being that it has E7 heads with flattops. It sounds like a truck motor or passenger car motor.

The 86 H.O. is the only H.O. motor with flattops, BUT it had E6SE heads. Sounds like someone mix and matched some parts or you have a non- H.O. motor.

the motor was bored.30 over,with new ford flatops installed,the original heads were bad so they matched them up with e7 heads,this was done by beasely rebuilders in altoona pa,they specialize in ford motors

There are two piston types commonly referred to as "flat tops" One is such as the 86 HO Stang motor had (and all the "base" 5.0's in the 86-91 cars with E6SE heads) that doesn't have valve reliefs. The other type is also a flat top but with reliefs. Sometimes these and the E6SE pistons also have a slight dish, but not one so deep as to be labeled a dished piston (as compared with the 70's Ford piston offerings, some of these have 1/4" or deeper dished areas in the top of the piston). Then there are the flat tops with less than optimum pinheights that serve the same purpose as the dish in some pistons (lowering the comp ratio)

I have one of these factory roller 351W engines sitting in the corner of my garage. It is out of a 95 F250 HD 4X4. It has F4TE cast in the block and has the E7TE heads. These started showing up in trucks and vans in 1994 and were made into 1997. Not all of them had a roller cam but they will all accept the 5.0 lifters and cam.

The engine I have has the roller cam and I got this 46K beauty for a whopping $150.
