I have read this sort of thing happening alot on this site, i have a after market hood too and i am always worried about it, i don't like the look of hood pins so i made some cables that hook to it under the hood (i hope it works if it ever happens) Sorry to hear that man good luck with the repairs!

Yes it seems some type of restraint system is a good investment for after market hoods, this happens too much.

Man you got off easy with that one. I done that back in fall and it completely caved in the cowl panel, like to where the top was touching the bottom and busted the corner out of my cowl hood. I'm in the process of fixing it now. Good luck fixing it. later

Yepp VERY lucky!! here is mine a week after i got my paintjob.. Took out my windshield, both cowl panels, plastic grille, and both my wipers.. It was too much a hassle to fix, soo it is banged up as best as i could.. you can still tell something happened however..

Yea i forgot to put my pins in once last year, drove around on the highway for a long time without em in. Luckily the latch held, but thats a mistake i'll never make again.

A few questions...

Why does this happen to cowl hoods?
Do the stock latches not work?
Do people remove the stock latches, and rely just on pins?
Is it because of the higher air pressure under the hood, plus the reduced weight?

Mine doesn't have a latch, just hood pins.

join the club, about two or three years ago i forgot to put the hood pins in my 91lx vert. The top was down and my hood must have went like twenty or thirty feet in the air, it was crazy because i looked up and saw it flying. (about 50mph this happened late at night) there wasnt a single car on the road so nobody saw it or was hit. damaged hood, damaged cowl, and it also busted my windshield it hit so hard.
