Hood Pin recommendation

Which hood pin manufacturers should I stay away from ?

WHo would you recommend ?

Is it a good idea to remove the stock hood release -or- leave it in place ?

Well let me tell you what not to do!!!!!!!!
The idiot that owned my car before mounted them in the center of the hood, just on the edges of the cowl. Now the side of the hood doesnt mate with the fenders, so be careful there.

Hood pins /w Springs

OK... so I'm hijacking my own post.

Why does is there no vendor which offers a hood-pin kit with springs ???

I could see that all stock latches and hood stops could be removed if the hood-pins were in the center of springs which held the hood in place.

You could easily adjust hood height by raising/lowering the pins.

What am I missing or overlooking ?

I'm seriously considering getting rid of all the stock hood latches, stops, and fasteners and going with a hood-pin & reasonably stiff spring combination. Obviously, I'll need to be able to depress the hood over the spring without cracking the fiberglas hood. I can see this working...

Mr. Gasket or whatever its called worked just fine. You can pick em up at oreillys for $9 (the locking kind). I just removed the hood stop bumpers and mounted them there. The drilling takes some patience but it wasn't too bad. Remove the hood latch. It looks stupid to have a latch AND pins.

thats what I have and it works fine, when I get my new cobra vented hood im going to invert the hood pins or make a setup so you dont see the big pins hanging out of the hood

I kept my stock latch when I added hood pins. I left it for security so nobody can just pull the pins and open my hood.

I personally dislike hood pins, but when necessary i understand their use.
I'd also consider using zeus clips, they are far easier on the eyes.

I would never disable the stock latch setup, the first time you forget to put the pins in, you'll be need a new cowl, hood and roof.

Unessisary hood pins make a car look ridiculous. but if you have the option of keeping the latch set up then u obviously don't need hood pins. I have a 4" fiberglass cowl and had no other choice than hood pins. If you can keep your stock latch then you might as well buy stick on pins

I like the flush mount style that uses the key to unlock them. Much nicer looking than the big pin through the hood with the screws holding the plate down (which eventually rust anyways). Don't know who makes them.

The point of the pins is to keep the hood secured in the event that the stock latch fails, for whatever reason.
Just go to the track and watch a few fast cars run with fiberglass hoods and a stock latch, just seeing all of the flexing and vibrating of the hood has me wanting some extra holding.
I just went last week and watched a few 7 to 8 second foxes run and their hoods raised at least an inch or more above the fender when they were flying by, the hoods were just flapping in the wind. At high speeds you are just testing your stock latch.

The Ford Racing hood pins are nice. They are all stainless steel and don't rust.

Agreed, thats why I have both just in case my stock latch fails, Ive seen to many foxes with smashed up cowl panels from stock latches giving way

IMO those don't look as good on the car as you might think. There was a S197 around here with the black ones and they just looked really stupid and out of place.

PLEASE if you put hood pins on keep the stock latch too...just for safety....trust me...im a victim...and its not fun....

the dummy who put the hood latch on my fiberglass hood before i bought it put it on a cm. shy of where it should be so with a nice tug you dont even have to pull the latch....

so one day i had to get a jump b/c i left my lights on...and i close the hood and leave...forgot about the hood pins.....im rollin down the road and get a mile away and start to go down a hill and the wind catches the hood and BOOM....beat up the cowl panel and broke my cowl grill...cracked the windshield...cracked my fiberglass hood...and put 2 nice little dents on my roof...

go ahead and put pins on there and take the latch off and see how you like a hood in front of you at 45 mph and you cant see a thing...
