I am not sure if 85_33_302_coupe is talking about my car but I had my hood fly off about 6 months ago. I just got it painted and put one with the hood pins you can lock down and well they did not work. At 35 mph the hood took flight, destroyed it, my cowl panel, and put a hole in my vert top. Talk about luck, this all happened in one of the worst rain storms we have had.
To top it all off the insurance company would cover it under comp. but they wanted to total it, damages were estamated at $3971.00, new everything. They said the cars value was not this, just below until I went and had it appraised and then they covered everything but 100.00 (deduct.). Now I am running the pin type hood pins and the stock safety catch. Use the pins trust me, I would hate to see anyone else go through this.
good luck!

Great! I have known alot of guys who had their hoods fly up, but did not know it was that common if you had a fiberglass hood! I am about to buy one from Cirvini's and was hoping to avoid getting the pins, but looks like I will just in case. I always hated the way they look, and have not seen a nice set yet.

I will still use my stock latch though, I also have the PST hood lifters. They are awsome!

Thanks guy's ...ya know what the same thing happened to me had the car for 2weeks and asked if the wife wanted to go to Sam's and BAM 55mph's hood flying up felt like a 1,000 pound Bomb went off in the car from the impact{I could only imagine the way that guy in the video felt.}I know my wife and I about S* h* i* t* our pant's. So I took the car to get a estamite and it was about $3,200 so on my way home for the insurnace guy to look at it....it happen again execept this time it took the toll sunroof and all What brought this on was the stock hood was broken into one time.and it didnt really hold well. Then the damn insurance guy said "no love Dr. Jones" the would total the car and I could keep it but could not get a title on it.Such BS I thought the car runs tip top ...except the sardine can opener that was used on the front of my car Any ways I told Him to take a hike and I have just about finished out of pocket at 1500 except paint.body and all new hood cowl etc. Any ways the latch that came with the Cervinis hood holds well and all BUt man I love what I have done to the car all by myself and it's been since Feb. since she's really stretched out and went over 45mph Kinda hard with no hood and complete front end missing windshield, cowl, sunroof fender apron.blah blah blah blah blah. I really dont want to do all of that again it was fun and all but that was a expesive mistake any ways WHICH ARE THE BEST Thanks

DAMN! I can't even fathum what it would be like to smoke your own hood at 150 MPH! Looks like you can't have too much security where thats concerned, maybe cover the front grill opening to keep the air out from under the front of the hood Probably not the best for cooling though.

one easy way to safeguard (or at least increase safety) believe it or not is just good old Duct Tape. Tape up the body lines in your front end up along the side of your hood and fender. I'm not saying that the tape will hold the hood on, but it forces the air to run along the top of the hood, and lets less air get underneath which is why the hood rips off in the first place (unless you blow your intake off or something) not to mention it does increase aerodynamics a tad.

I know if i get that far along that i'm running 150ish mph, i'm hood latching the poop out of my hood, like 6-8 pins all around it, and i dont care how stupid it looks. I figure if a guy needs that many pins, then he probably has a good reason.

Mine blew up on the top end at 105 mph and shattered the window and crushed the roof in real good. Had to pull an ACE VENTURA till i got slowed down. Luckily my father is an awsome body man. Fixed the roof and cowl panel in a few days.Bought a good hood at a junk yard. Cant even tell the roof was smashed................then it happened again about 3 months later but it didnt hit anything it just blew COMPLETELY OFF. Didnt touch the car on the way up.....I just kept driving. Ordered a glass hood the next day OVERNIGHT was crazy expensive one the hood by the way. Luckily my new hood and hood pins have not failed me yet............
