Hood pins

I was throwing around the idea of putting hood pins on my car.. At 100 mph it seems to bounce around more than I like. Anyone have any good experiences with a good brand? I don't want it to look cheesy, but I don't really trust the stock latch with a fiberglass hood.

We have the Ford Performance (SVO, FMS, whatever Ford is calling their aftermarket parts division this week.)
They are about a month old, and are supposed to be stainless steel.
I think the pins themselves are stainless, but the clips and trim rings are already rusty.


These are on my teen son's car, and my 87 has a set by a previous owner (badly rusted too), but I'd never put pins on my personal car by my own choice.

I have used a lanyard cable before that was bolted to the hood latch support, then when the hood was shut, it would hang down and I would clip or padlock the other end of the lanyard to the lower radiator support. This gives some theft protection and holds the hood down.

My opinion... your's may vary.

http://www.aerocatch.com/ I have these on my 89 Saleen and they look great and work awesome. I personally like the flush mount and you never have to worry about rust/corrosion making them look bad. Are they cheap........uh, no. But you do get what you pay for.

I will find where I bought mine. They are 8 years old and no rust. I put them on for the same reason...didn't trust that the latch with the fiberglass hood. I kept picturing it on the road in my rearview mirror

I'm not allowed to make a brand recommendation since I'm a forum sponsor, but I can tell you that I once bought a Fox and a couple days after I bought it, the hood flew up on the highway. (It had an aftermarket hood, which I didn't personally install) It was a terrifying experience at highway speeds!

i have spectra stainless ones on my car with the stock hood. i also didnt trust the stock latch it always seemed to bounce around a lot.

i got tired of rolling the dice too my hood popped a couple times in the last couple years held only by the safety latch scary ! so i got UPR shelby polished hoodpins im happy as hell with them. I never wanted hoodpins on my car now i wouldnt have any other way hood dont move at any speed and ive grown to love the look.

They look good. I'm not sure what I want to do but I don't want my hood coming unlatched..

Ever consider those flush-mount aerocatch latches? A bit different. If you have a dark colored car, they will be barely noticable.

IMO you MUST have some sort of hood pins if you have any fiberglass hood. I dont care what brand it is. I have seen and read too many stories of hoods flying up at high speed. My own personal experience was with a Cervini ram air hood on my 87 S trimmed convertible that made about 400 hp. I was messing around one day showing off and hit the gas hard , and the hood came flying up. I hit the brake hard and luckily it only damaged the cowl and the back portion of the hood. Turns out the latch portion tore right off the hood. Maybe mine was just a bad hood as Cervini makes a quality piece. Not blaming them but thanks to my $5000 custom pearl paint job it was almost a grand to repaint the cowl and hood. Scared the living crap out of me. The NEXT DAY I put a set of hood pins on, and since that is the first thing I install on every one of my cars with a fiberglass hood. Live and learn.
