Hood Scoop Problem

I just got a new 07 mustang gt and it has a hood scoop. When I looked at it more closely I noticed that it was blocked. If you open the hood there are a series of bolts undereath the scoop so are those their to remove the block. If anyone knows how to remove the block let me know. Also if it was removed would water be a problem? Thanks

iam not 100% sure but i think that the scoop is just bolted on the stock GT hood, so even if you took the black thing thats closing it off it still wouldnt do you any good, unless you cut the hood too and it wouldnt be worth it at all.

Are you joking?

If you are serious, here's your answer:

Most hood scoops are NOT functional. That is, they are for show, not go. Opening it up would NOT do anything as it's not tied into the engine air intake. Even if it was, the middle of the hood not the proper place for an air intake as air flows up over the leading edge of the hood and would not force any air into the scoop.

The 2005+ draws intake air from the fender well on the drivers side of the car. The hood scoop is only a decorative piece and has zero functionality.

The last car that used a "hood scoop" was the 03/04 Mach 1's.

The recent Mach 1s were functional but it's debatable as to how much they improved performance. Virtually all scoops are show and no go.

I seen a GT CS and the kid opened the hood, dealer had to repair from water damage and he had to plug up the hole.

Flying Scoop

Also, think on why they'd block non-functional scoops. They'd probably look much cooler unblocked, right? My Roush scoop is blocked, close to the front, the older (pre 05) scoop were blocked in the same way. I'm guessing that the reason is to prevent a large pocket of pressurised air from building up on the whole underside of the scoop and tearing it clean off your car - block near front = small lip of underside of scoop to be affected by lift.

Hey, no need to put me down, I simply was asking a question. I wasn't talking about making it functional in the fact that it would be connected to the intake, I was thinking just letting more air in the hood would keep things cooler. Wouldn't it?

Yeah, opening up the hood would let in larger amounts of water and debris that could ruin some of the wiring or damage the electrical components where the water gets to.

A better way to extract heat is to pull it out with reverse scoops.

The Shelby scoops appear to be just in front of the block and the Saleen scoops appear off to the sides(but behind the CAI)...

Hey, I was being helpful, I pointed out how the middle of the hood is the wrong place to put a scoop. They don't work even if they are open.

Besides that, I was just checking to make sure you weren't trying to play a joke on us.
