Ok so here's the deal. I just bought a car, and the clutch ended up going bad, so I had it replaced, and there was an aftermarket exhaust on it too, so I got the stock h-pipe put back in with the cats. Now when I drive around for maybe 15 minutes or more, the center console area by the ash tray and arm rest get hot, and when I open up the ash tray and touch the metal in there, its like REALLY hot, like hot enough where it wont burn you, but you cant leave your finger touching it for too long or it will hurt too much.
So basically i'm thinking the problem might either be with the tranny or exhaust, being as those are pretty much the only things around there. I have a check engine light on, which is for emissions, so what emissions problems would cause an exhaust to heat up that much where I can feel it inside? Also, even with the cats on, my friend driving behind me said my car smelled like fuel. I can also smell it, and it doesn't even smell like exhaust fuel, but just straight up right out of the gas pump fuel. Doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere though.
Another problem i'm having that I think might be tranny related, is the fact that recently after driving around with the new clutch, when i'm in a higher gear, but low rpms and i give it more gas than just cruising along, it makes a weird low humming/slight grinding sound, which isn't present when just cruising, or in higher rpms. Could that mean low gear oil or something, and would that cause the tranny to heat up a lot?
I'm going to Autozone again to see if they can give me an actual number for the CEL code, so i'll report back, but any suggestions as far as the tranny goes?
