I've been wondering this for a while (my last vehicle was an automatic with a B&M kit in it, loved it). How "daily driver friendly" is a high stall converter? I wanted to put one in my truck, but never did because I heard its no good for daily driving.
high stall convertors are awesome for drivers, you just need a big tranny cooler
they slip inporportion to throttle, like a centrifical clutch, part throttle is near stock, maybe 200rpm higher slip, wack the throttle and it flashes the big number right into the powerband, I"d suggest at about 3000stall for dirven street/strip stock 4.6, much looser in a race car
I Like my auto. I am at about 300rwhp and it is doing great. Have a B&M shift kit, and pump pressures elevated some thru the Allen re-programmed chip. It shifts hard. I doubt it would live long with 500rwhp though. In fact, I feel pretty confident that you should probably stay below 400 and keep your fingers crossed even at that. The cooler, as mentioned earlier is a must also.
Pertums - Yes, you should change your fluid. Keep the transmission fluid changed every 20-30k miles. The harder you are on the car, the sooner it should be changed. As for a transmission cooler, I'm using the one from Steeda and it works pretty good. I didnt do the install myself and it needed an install kit. A lot of the guys on here use the B&M GVW 24,000 cooler as it seems to cool the best. Wether that kit comes complete or not, I'm not sure.
