how bad is the stock H?

I hear that you can't hardly get any sound from a cat back with the stock H pipe. I wan't to get an off raod H but I don't know about the hassle of puting it on and talking it off every year for inspection. Id buy a catted H, but for 300+ bux....i dont think so.

So would I get no sound at all with just a cat back? I don't want to break windows, but I want to hear it inside the car with the windows up. Right now, i can't even tell my car is running!

I’m sure getting a new cat-back system will help the sound quite a bit. If you want loud and some actual 'performance' from an exhaust upgrade get hi-flo cats at least if you have that money or get o/r. Replacing the stock H wont be... terribly hard to do once a year.

I just installed my mac o/r x pipe and it made a big difference, and only took me about 1 1/2 hours to take off the stocker and put in the new one without a lift and by myself.

slap an off roader on their yull love it.i got my swap time down to 20 min now.its only 8 bolts, a hose clamp and 2 elictrical connectors for the o2's.

The stock cats are 75% of the restriction in the stock exhaust system IMO. Ditch em fast and you will love it. Forget getting a catted h-pipe, not worth it.

The swap is easy, and you only have to do it once a year. With a buddy, it's really easy.

I replaced my hardware with all stainless steel hardware, and it doesn't rust or bind. That makes it really sweet, b/c rusted and stuck bolts are the #1 problem with exhaust swaps.

just make sure you use antiseize or oil on the stainless hardware or it can gawl and make it impossible to get them apart, just my experience

The H-pipe is not hard to install or remove. Just remember to use "Antisieze" on all exhaust bolts for easy future removals. Suggestion: install the H-pipe and get it set/lined up properly and then have the cross tube welded. Do not rely on the supplied clamp. You will eventually have an exhaust leak. Here in MD we only have emissions every 2 years (used to be annually). For '96 and up cars, they just do an OBDII diagnostics of the car - if no emission codes you pass. Just One Man's Opinion. If the O2's are placed to far back, there could be a problem but that never happens with an H pipe for shorties.
