how can i get my car in the mid 14s cheep

Good suggestions - then an intake. Put some subframes on there too. Your auto wants lots of low end-mid range torque, so you can use a properly ported stock lower (more torque where you need it) or a Cobra/Explorer (good torque also).

Can I inquire as to how SFC's on a fairly stock AODE hardtop can help get him in the 14's?

It helps reduce body flex and aids traction. Power goes to the wheels rather than twisting up the chassis.
BUT, is that gonna help a fairly stock AODE? Reason Im asking is that the original question asks for cheap way to get in the 14's on his car. I agree that SFC's are good...I still dont have them, but it's my next mod...I just think for his current setup, the money is better spent somewhere else.

It's been proving time and time again that the combo of slicks or drag radials and gears is a cheap and effective way to lower you times. Give that a try and watch the e.t.'s drop!!
The original poster never said what was done to the car or the basics of the car (auto or 5-speed, etc.).

Assuming it's a stick car, this fellow quoted above took the words right out of my mouth. With a 3.73 gear and 26 x 15" slicks in either 8 or 10 inch width would work well. They yield instant results because launching the car is a no brainer: stage the car, bring the revs up (knock it off the limiter if you'd like :)) and on the 3rd amber light, dump the clutch. The times will lower themselves instantly once tire pressures are established. More ET will be knocked off once the driver gets shift points down with the timing and fuel pressure dialed in.
