How can I tell if I have a Traction-Loc differential?

I have a 97GT and I want to change the differential oil. Do I need to add friction modifier?

I've looked online and some places say two ounces, some say four ounces, and I'm not really sure what type of rear end is in the car anyway.

When you jack the car up to drain the diff. Spin one tire. If the other tire spins the same direction you have the traction lok limited slip. If thats the case it will take 4oz of limited slip additive. If you get gear oil such as royal purple or redline you dont need the limited slip. You're going to need some silicone for a new gasket for the cover and you're going to need two bottles of the gear oil.

I have never seen a late model V8 Mustang without factory traction lock.

I think GT's have had Limited slip since 87

Thanks for the info. We've had so much rain here lately, I've had to drive through deep water a few times, plus the car has about 78K on it.

I'm about to change the transmission (5 speed) and rearend fluid.
