How can I tell its a 351w?

Im going out to junkyards in a couple of weeks to find a complete 351w for my sn95. Since you fox guys have done most of the 351w swaps, im asking for you help with knowing that its a 351w. Im going to be looking at f150 and Econolines for the engine. I was told that the lifter valley is about 8-9" wide, are there any other exterior ways of knowing its a 351w and not a 302 or 351c?

The intake is noticeably wider than a 302. The block is taller as well. Easiest way for me is that on the oil pan. The 2 dips in the ends of the pan where it seals around the timing cover and rear main cap on a 302 are the same width across, a 351 the rear one is wider than the front one. Hope this helps!

I usually look at the thermostat cover.On a 302 you need a wrench to get at the lower bolt but on a 351w you can get at it with a socket as it sits up higher.

351 is 7.25 inches across where intake meets heads. 302 is 5.5 inches across. clevelands have big timing cover made into block, windsors use aluminum timing cover. the lifter valley has big number on it . you can't miss it. if you find some and aren't sure get the casting number located on passenger side down where the starter would mount. post the no's.

check the height of the deck. The water pump passages on a 302 are really close to the deck. A 351 has a taller deck height and the passages are farther down from the top.
