How can they confiscate these cars?

It's all about money. Police are not about enforcing the law, but making the local goverment wealthy. The more crime means more job security, so that is proof that the Police do not care about actually stopping crime, but they are all the time trying to make laws so they can make money. They are now trying to make new laws to sieze your property for any reason.

The courts have an agenda, and do not follow the rules of innocent until proven guilty. I got a street racing ticket, my attorney expained that it wasn't about innocent/guilty, but the courts making money. He said they would convict me of something. They can convict you of "attempting to plan a street race" IOW: there was a possibliity of you thinking of it, then your guilty. Cobb County Court in Georgia is guilty of this.

But what can we do about it?

How does more crime mean more job security? Have you ever heard of the broken windows theory? I'm sure a run down town with high crime has a better chance of attracting outside business.
You also seem to think that police run themselves and answer to nobody. In the real world you have a mayor and commissioners who want to attract developers, businesses, and residents whom they can tax. These taxes are what insures job security with the police, not high crime rates. The best funded Police Dept.s I know of are in small towns with low crime rates; usually big towns with high crie rates have UNDER-funded police depts. Would you rather make more $ with less chance of being killed, or make less $ with a greater chance of being killed?

I hope the gov't is making sure you're not buying fertilizer or renting Ryder trucks.

Wont happen. Charlotte is way too populated as it is now, and the oulying areas are getting developed faster than you can say "where's all the trees go?" There was a track close by not too long ago not sure how long, I got into the scene after it was gone, but they had to shut it down because of all the new neighborhoods that went up around it. Which really is crap. The raceway was their for years(Shuffletown was the name), and then they start building neighborhoods and it gets shut down due to noise compaints.Some say that there is more to that story about the owner getting into some bad stuff. Get this. The land that the track was built on was donated by a family that lost their to son to ( are you ready?).....street racing. Money talks guys.
Sidenote: If you're suprised about the harshness of the laws about street racingn here in NC, you may want to do a search and find out what your state or provinces statutes say. SN"s own Mad Mark found NC's for me, as I couldnt find it anywhere(Thanks again Mark). If you find em, post em up.I for one am curious how other state handle this.

They had a sting like this in Norfolk a couple months ago. I work with like six other guys who have mustangs(5-S197's and 2-foxs including mine). Its a blast to work here because we all talk about mods to each other all day. But one Friday night theres a grocery store near a stretch of highway leaving Norfolk Naval Base. People meet at the grocery store and hang out. Others make arrangments to race. We'll one night like 50 cops surrounded the parking lot. But they only nabbed the ones they had on tape racing. Apparently a state troop was hiding in the bushes as they raced by. One girl had a twin turbo Supra. Nice car. GONE!!! Yup they seized it. Sad thing is it was her only mode of transportation. And her moms car had been repossesed the week before. But they have been cracking down on just the hanging around in the parking lot. Now none of my buddys got tickets or had their cars seized that night. But they had to give statements to NCIS. Its getting hard to do anything to your car in VA. You rev your engine up or speed up to the speed limit to fast. TICKET!!! Exhibition of speed. If your exhaust can be heard from 50 feet away. TICKET!!! Violation of noise ordinance and having an aftermarket exhaust. When the cop let my buddys go that night he told them ease out in 3rd gear if possible. So they wouldn't make to much noise. He didnt want the other cops to ticket them. But they ticketed all the imports. And I dare you to put nitrous on your car and get pulled over. If they see the plumbing under the hood. Thats another ticket. Street racing will never end. Racing start on the street and its going to stay there. I dont agree with it. But the inherent danger is an adrenaline rush to those who do it.

I used to run in those crowds when I had my old 89 GT. and yes, I've had a racing ticket. I was actually at one of these huge events in Chesapeake, VA when they were building the 168 bypass a few years ago. I went down there w/ a MASS of people and we were all parked on the side of the road watching people race up and down this under construction road. After about 30 minutes, I got a bad vibe and got the hell outa there. Right after I hit the main road and started going back to civilization, 3 Chesapeake cops & a state trooper FLEW past me toward where I just was. Got lucky that night. Never again will I be in that situation. Besides, SCCA events are more fun anyway.

More power to the police to put up an actual sting for this though, good for them. I personally have no problem w/ a few less riced out Geo Storm's on the road. As for the guys that had their Mustangs seized....what did you think was going to happen eventually? I feel no pity for these people, partly because I know it stupid and partly because I've been there in those crowds and was smart enough to get the hell out.

Yup right there on Little Crook Road. They'd meet at the Food Lion and hit 564.
