So I got this gt convertible, with a white top and white leather seats. When I was cleaning, ans crubbing the hell out of the top and seats, I noticed a few of those stains just don't want to come out. I tried the normal soap that the self service car wash spits out, preston interior cleaner, with the plastic scrubber, and armoral leather care and cleaner. Nothing happened. So how far should I go with this? Bleach? I know it's corosive, but then again, cheap t-shirts dont desintegrate when washed in bleach. Also, my skin tends to hold up well if bleach get's on it. Leather is cow skin, and the top is vinyl. But there's the waterproofing on the top to consider. I don't know. The stains are black. Probably grease or oil. Nothing too major, but still noticable. I know how expensive it is to replace a top, so I'm not even gonna consider that yet. As far as the seats go, I bet it's even more expensive. Who else has had luck getting stains out WITHOUT burning a whole through the material?

Try using Mr Clean magic eraser. You can pick it up at any grocery store. Works great.

EXACTLY what I was going to say! They come in packs of two, or four. They are basically little sponges with chemicals n junk in there; all you do is add water and lightly scrub, after a while most all stains/dirt should disappear.

CAUTION! MCME (yeah they get abbreviated now lol) WILL remove the dye from your seats if you're not careful, so take your time and don't apply too much pressure. Also, be sure to apply a leather seat treatment (anything with sealing properties will work) afterwards so the seats do not crack or fade.

MCME? Is that a division of ACME?

Great, looks like I'll be going back to Walmart now. I swear that place has power over me. I cant go more than 2 days without having to go there.

Oh sweet victory. I went down to the local Air Force Base today, went into the BX, and got a magic erasor. No Walmart today. This is a major accomplishment! I've been sober for 4 days now. Now maybe one of these days I'll try to get those stains out.

Hold on a second... People have TALKED about using Mr Clean Magic Eraser on vinyl convertible top material but as far as I know no one has ACTUALLY done it and posted up the results.

Convertible tops are expensive and can make the car look terrible if they are not in good shape. If it was MY top I would be very careful about this. If you are going to be the Magic Eraser guinea pig, use it in a small out of the way place and see what happens over the course of weeks or months to see how it will affect the vinyl.

A better suggestion would be to use a cleaning product approved by Haartz which is the manufacturer of the vinyl convertible top material.

Only one product is actually approved by Haartz and that is the "Ragg Top Convertible Top Cleaner and Protector Kit for Vinyl Tops". There is another kit made by 303 Aerospace which, although not officially approved by Haartz, is also a great kit.

I did it.

You just have to have water flowing constantly or the dirt will run down and create more stains. just keep the water flowing!
Only before and after shot i have using one. Didn't take one with the seats or top

What color top did you try it on? Tan I'm assuming? Mine is white, but is it safe to use on black? Or does it have the effects of bleech?

I would still use a product specifically designed for vinyl convertible top material on my top and not the Magic Eraser...

Ragg Top or 303 for vinyl tops is what I would use.

Agreed. I was suggesting to use the magic eraser on the leather (interior)..

I learned about this process a few years ago on stangnet and was reluctant at first to try it. I used a SMALL amount of TSP (trisodium phosphate) in a bucket of water on my 2000 tan top, brushed it with a scrub brush and it worked just fine. Don't get it on the paint. Rinse it really well with dishwashing liquid , which means you will now have to apply a coat of wax on the paint.

I did this 2 years ago and the top has yet to show any signs of damage from this process.

Greased Lightning!!!! I swear by this stuff. That purple bottle has saved me so much money. I thought I was gonna have to spend 100 bucks on new carpet, but I spent 4 bucks on the bottle and it saved me 96 bucks!!
